The Sir Winston & The Commons acetate track "All The Time" randomly tries to mess my mind. Sometimes I hear it one way, but other times it sounds completely different, with a different beat and rhythm. I just wanted to ask if anyone else gets their mind messed up by this track, like I do?

If the song starts out the "other" way, its very difficult to mentally switch back to the "correct" way of listening to it. It's psychedelic! It's insane! Or...is it me?

It is one of those unintentionally psychedelic inducing things. My stomach turns a little. I listened 3 times. The chorus builds around 3 bar long lines or do I lose count. It has that feel of trying to fix a mistake in there somewhere. The drums are kind of "where am I in this weird song I dropped a beat and need to slap in a double beat to catch back up". The guitar sounds double or triple tracked to fix this timing irk but just makes it quiver more? The harmonies are strange and wonderful. The bass is a freaking groove. Do they just keep going faster and faster?

It really is wonderful and yes insane too.

Nice tune!
Yeah, they drop the 4th bar in the chorus. John Lennon and Burt Bacharach do stuff like that all the time. It's one of those gimmicks of inventive 60s songwriting. But usually it gets smoothened by the arrangement. I guess, it sounds unusual in a garage recording. On the other hand, if they'd play the 4th bar it might sound a bit bland...
But, actually, I'm not sure if I would have noticed anything unusual if I hadn't expected it.

On third listening I like the song even more. It's really quite original.
Unusual is also that instead of a lead and a rhythm guitar, it is based on two rhythm guitars playing different styles. One plays jangle, the other plays a Kinks-style rock riff. I wonder if I ever heard anyone else doing that.

Those unissued tracks are the BOMB! As are both singles. I'm gonna blast 'em all today, a snow day here!

I pestered Bob I. at Sundazed for some time about getting the Soma tracks reissued. Imagine my surprise when a package from Sundazed arrived in the mail with the 4 track scoop of Soma and Nauseating Butterfly tunes. Even better was seeing my name in the fine print on the back of the sleeve...

Eureka!

I have finally figured out how this psychedelic duality works!

The "normal" way of listening to this song is as follows.
ONE two three four five one TWO three
ONE two three four five one TWO three...

BUT the "psychedelic" way goes like this!
one TWO three four five ONE two three
one TWO three four five ONE two three....

Starting on the absolute first note of the song, count the beats giving a strong emphasis to the capitalized beats as shown. Listen exclusively to the jangly guitar. If you do this correctly, you will experience psychedelic euphoria without the need for either chemical stimulation or meditation.

It's not in the chorus, but in the verses where the psychedelic duality lies.

5/4 . I can't seem to count odd numbered beats  (which is why I think they sound like they speed up) but ten is less difficult for some reason! yeah twos and sixes. The chorus is still kind of wobbly wall inducing too for me.

I've got this thing that US drummers have a wider variety of strange timings and fills because of thee marching bands they have in schools. I mean any normal drummer starts playing mid teens and 4/4 is the main timing but here the geeks are drumming and marching for the jocks from an earlier age.

The song is still making the belly turn slightly.

listening to "Take 5" dave brubeck and the Commons bass is pretty close to it.

Ahhhrrghhhhh the mysteries of 5/4 HELPPPPPPP Meeeee .....http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quintuple_meter

Been hunting that video for years. I can tell you that the band has never seen it. The "guy" was the owner of dorothy's and levisons. I have the teen tempos of the idle few and olivers also...........
