I was listening to "That's too bad" today and recall reading a story from probably 15 years ago. I'd like to read it again. If anyone here can provide a link, I'd appreciate it.

From memory, someone (maybe a member here?) was spinning records over the airwaves... when a member of the Soup Dragons called in and mentioned his band. At first the member thought that the DJ was being sarcastic about his band but then he played their song over the air. Does this story ring a bell with anyone?

I know it was Moptop Mike. I’m sure he can fill you in. That exchange I believe led to the release of the Misty Lane Records CD.

Soup Greens.
The Soup Dragons blow.
All the info is in the linernotes to the Misty Lane release.

Posting right before I'm going to sleep can lead to embarrassing moments (I'm not a Soup Dragons fan either). Thanks for the info.

Thread title has been changed to avoid confusion.
For my blunder, I probably deserved to be stripped of my Ikon class status. Thanks for the correction.

Massimo reprinted the Soup Greens liner notes in one of the issues of Misty Lane magazine as well. I have the issue but cannot get to it at the moment.
To summarize - I was a guest host on my friend / radio mentor Jim's weekly radio show that featured music from the 1960s. A caller rang him up at the station about 20 minutes into the program, wanting to know if Jim had, or knew the date of the Billboard issue which featured his old group's 45 in the review section (in hindsight, it was Record World that featured the 45). We put him on speaker phone, since a song was playing over the air at that moment. I asked the caller what the group name was. He said we would never have heard of the group, as they never had a hit record. After asking again, the caller said, We were called "The Soup Greens", and i immediately fired back with, "Yeah! "Like A Rolling Stone"! "That's Too Bad"!! which sent him into mild shock and utter disbelief, lol! I pulled the Pebbles CD out from the station library and we got Like A Rolling Stone on the air which totally freaked him out - that is how I met Dave Eagle. A few weeks later, Dave invited me to his home and brought out the wrecked acetates (he cleaned them with alcohol back in the 70s) but he smartly recorded them before trying to clean them up on a reel to reel tape. The tracks on the comp were sourced from the tape dubs of the acetates.

MopTopMike, I appreciate you taking the time and posting the story. Now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure that I once read this in Misty Lane. It was obviously a good write up because after all these years, I still remember it. Thanks again.
