Or spin the Bobby Saint Clair 45, the best Gene Pitney sounding teenbeat fuzz thumper that Gene never recorded for himself! Then, flip it over for a Brian Hyland sound....
buckeyebeat said:I don't care for the Jack Wood record either. I passed on a copy for $100 a while ago. The B side is a little better, but it's not a TBM record. If people want to play half assed crap like JW at a 'soul' 'mod' dance night, go for the real deal teener soul like Gene Pitney, or these

Monster Mike said:That being said, I thought it should be included as it featured a local teen combo and it was recorded at Fenton studios. There were enough dots to connect....
MopTopMike said:The question was asked if the JW 45 was TBM worthy, and some of us, who have been doing this archiving / collecting thing for a long time, said no. Simple as that. That's really the point of this thread. Members can freely offer their offer their opinion, in a non PC or ass-kissing manner. The underlying theme here is desire to flog a mediocre at best record for a lot of money under the guise of it being a great dance record. The next big fetish for the DJ scene. Trust me, there are LOTS of records just as good, if not better than the one discussed. And many are far better buys for the money.

MopTopMike said:Everyone already knows my disdain for the new breed of DJs out there who spin '60s sounds. They do not.
I'll wipe the floor with every one of these DJs with my stuff, and you won't hear mediocrity.
That's why you find the same dozen guys buying and selling the same 45s they paid way too much for in the first place. No one in the collector scene wants them. What does that tell you?

Like it's some new discovery.
A very common 45 in the day, never more than $20.
i like it, a solid 3 out of 10, but, really....
Somebody spins it, and, like the sheep they prove they are, every uncreative DJ wants the 45.
And it sells for $400.
Back on topic; does the Drag Kings make the cut?
So the list will be in the addendum Beyond volume? I think that will be an amazing resource if so...MopTopMike said:Let me check the release date, if it is from '64 I would certainly list it. Since so many people ask me about potential 45s to add in the forthcoming book, or why something was omitted from TBM, I decided to provide a list of every 45 that didn't pass the TBM audition. I'm not listing major label discs, as those are quite easy to research and check out for yourself. This list will present small label / vanity custom pressings that did not qualify.
