Teenbeat Mayhem launch date......

Interesting info about the LOC. One obvious follow up would be to write about any cool things that eventuated from the research, such as contacting obscure groups; snaffling boxes of previously rare records ...

I plan to publish interviews I made via copyright info in a 'zine, instead of putting stories up on the web.
As for the "snaffling boxes of rare records", that did not happen. I did manage to obtain a copy or two from a small amount of copyright trawls - usually a single copy for my own collection, or a few extras, but never a box. 95 times out of 100, the contacts did not have anything.

OK, gang!
A 'lil treat for you.
Please, keep this quiet. I am not making an official announcement just yet!

I told you guys that G45 members would be first in line, and I would like to make sure everyone here has a chance to be an early bird.

Just a couple of things first:
Follow the instructions in the flyer, especially if you are a non USA resident, and

Do NOT contact me here on this forum if you have questions after reading the flyer..

Dear Sir,

Are you aware of how few and far between branches offering full banking services face-to-face are today?

"Checks", I remember them as some colorful sheets of paper my dad used to write on in the mid-80s. Haha!

How about Western Union? A big no-no?

Joking aside, great news!

"Checks", I remember them as some colorful sheets of paper my dad used to write on in the mid-80s.

Checks found a financial habitat in the US of A and the UK, where they appear to lead a life unthreatened by useful inventions such as easy, fast'n'free bank transfers. No wonder paypal business figures are as good as they are.

keeping fingers crossed the merchant account works out!

Paypal has become a nightmare for sellers / businesses. Not including the high cost (7% or more in fees and expenses for overseas transactions / USA to overseas)

Based on their revamped policies and gestapo operations methods, sellers have little recourse when a buyer files a claim. The system has been exploited by people who know that paypal will side with a buyer. Impatient buyers who pay for a regular / low cost shipping method which takes several weeks for customs clearance, etc, now file 'item paid for / not received' claims against the seller. They are aware that paypal only accepts proof of shipment with Fed Ex or Express mail - both services would cost around $75 for my book, for example. The cost of the item must be noted, and that causes the buyer to have to payVAT taxes, custom fees, etc. on top of the shipping cost.
No other method with any purchased "confirmation" is recognized, not even registered mail. Therefore, paypal will automatically refund the buyer's payment, with the buyer getting the item eventually. The seller loses out the item, and the cash. I really do not think too many people would return the payment to the seller when the item later arrives.

Every person or business that I know who use paypal has their own horror story - fraud chargebacks, funds being put on hold for days or months - not good when you have a lot of business $$$ in your account, money that is yours but you cannot access it until paypal lifts the hold, which seems to be whenever they feel like doing it.

Paypal does not operate under banking regulations, so they are free to operate as they wish, part of the agreement you make when you sign up with them. And they also know buyers prefer their services (you do not need a credit card and service is free). Thus, a monopoly which will not change anytime soon.
If I am forced to use them, I will, but I am holding out for other options. They are the reason I stopped selling 45s on ebay. (as well as ebay's "play our way" policies).

As for pre-orders, I cannot use paypal whether I want to or not - items have to be in stock and ready to ship for paypal to be a valid payment option. I cannot do preorders - they will hold your money indefinitely, and then, there are the people out there who will file "I didn't get my book yet" claims after a week, knowing full well I do not have the books yet.

That is why I note on the PDF for the book that if you reside overseas, can obtain a bank check or money order, and don't mind paying the priority mail shipping costs, feel free to order now.
Otherwise, hang on for a few weeks until I get the books and can arrange other electronic payment options.

Mike, have you looked into WePay.com? Same concept as Paypal, but they're not Paypal. I have used WePay as a buyer, but not as a seller. Not quite as smooth as Paypal, but may be a viable alternative for you.

Anyone else on here have experience with WePay?

Just looked thru terms and conditions...not for me, unfortunately
WePay highlights for sellers
1- Maximum of $2,000 sales per week.
2 - Your payment funds are held in WePay's holding area, co-mingled with other merchant's balances (so they can make maximum interest off the money, of course) and payments are only transferred to your merchant bank account once a month (once every 30 days). So, WePay operates payouts to merchants as mandatory holds.

I use Paypal for everything. I don't even use checks anymore. As long as you send the book to me with delivery confirmation (it's like 18 cents if you use Paypal shipping) you and I are both protected. As far as overseas, that's another story. But Paypal is the way to go in the good ole U.S. of A. ;)

Yes, but if you are considered a new seller (I will be, because I have not sold anything as a paypal seller for several years via ebay), you are limited to a max income from sales of $3,000 per month for 90 days. Then you have to go thru a review for higher amounts to get approval. I'm certain they will hold funds for potential chargebacks, keeping me from the money I need to keep going. That certainly won't fly selling copies of TBM.

Is IBAN possible? A bit freaked out about the payment options as I´m completely swamped with work, no time to find a branch with actual people working there & then going on a 5 week vacation next week! Or are these strange payment options available online? Any Europeans know? (I live outside of EC/EU)(Thank god btw, haha!)

I may go with Spotify in conjunction with an internet merchant account, it would enable domestic and overseas customer accounts via accepting credit cards and debit cards.
Sorry Joey, no Paypal for US folks. Get yer ass to the bank or PO! Or send me cash in da mail with a shitty 45 to shadow transit!
