Teenbeat Mayhem launch date......

I arrived at work this morning to find a package on my desk. I'm so excited to have Teenbeat Mayhem right here in my hands!

A quick flick through the pages gives me full confidence that the book is everything we all hoped it would be and more. There is a lot more informative text than I thought there would be, and it's going to be a great read. But the monumental importance of the book as an accurate reference for '60s garage 45s will take years to fully appreciate.

The layout is excellent and really fits the subject matter perfectly. Ben did a wonderful job (although I'm sure the look is also a reflection of Mike's personal taste and directions). It's clear and concise, packing lots of info into each page, but still very readable. The layout and font choice gives a fun and exciting feel, fitting the music perfectly. I love how the scans turned out! Tom's foreword is extremely well written, as well as hitting several nails squarely on the head. It's not waffle, it's really cool and thoughtful. Fantastic job Tom!

Mike, the overall result is superb. It's a reference book worthy of the music we love, that will almost certainly never be surpassed. I'll be awake until the early hours tonight enjoying the results of your years of dedicated work and research.

CONGRATULATIONS AND THANKS MIKE!
Are you planning to tick off all the ones you own, Mark?

Mike, I have a couple corrections / changes I wanted to suggest - confirmed band locales - should I email you at the Priceless Info Press email? Or comment on the blog?

Anyone with additional information can send them to me via the priceless info press e-mail.
Some entries required more information, but the space was not there to include everything I had wanted to note.
All locations, discography bits, etc. corrections will be published in the TBM followup book.
My blog will just note a few layout oriented discrepancies that rub me the wrong way.

Damn. I would do just about anything to have this book, but as a poor student, it's out of my price range.

It looks like a masterpiece, though!

Yesternight I dreamed about a website that contains all Mike's info including corrections and additions ....

I'll surely do that, Michael...but I won't be too happy with the result.
TBM discography = approx 220 pages x approx 50 titles per page = something like 11,000 titles
Bunker contains 44 x 120 count boxes of US garage 45s = something like 5,200 titles.
Not even halfway...:(

Better score on the top 1000 though...962/1000 = 38 missing (mostly acetates, plus a few of mine are promos, not stock copies as shown in the book).

There are two gaffs which I am embarrassed to admit snuck by us all. Two purchasers pointed these out, so for those of you who purchased your copy, please make the following change for #1. #2 will be placed on my blog soon. I've gone thru the entire A to Z double checking for rating gaffs, and this seems to be the only remaining "forgot to revise" entry before shipping the book:

#1 - Cryan Shames "Ben Franklin's Almanac" should be rated as a 6, it is shown as a 7. Scored a mean of 6.166. I had forgotten to change this prior to submitting the proof . All orders sent as of 8/15 will show the correction.

#2 - There is a duplicate label scan within the Top 1000. I thought we had addressed this when it was found during the reconfiguration phase, but I guess we missed it. #892 and #741 show "White Ship" by the Denims.
#892 is correct for "White Ship". #741 is also held by the Denims, but the song is "I'm Your Man". I'll work on creating a replacement scan which everyone can download and tape or paste over the incorrect scan at #741

All will be contained in a second follow-up book, Beyond TeenBeat Mayhem, as noted on the website. It also contains additional information (new group/45 listings) plus some things we could not fit into TBM.
This book will be softcover and a lot less costly (estimated $25-30).

Got my book today Mike, thanks for sending it out so promptly.

It's all I expected and more....congrats on finally 'giving birth' to your baby, something to be proud of for sure..

Gaffe #2 is a bummer. I must have some responsibility for that one I guess. But don't let the typos get you down too much Mike. We're all aware they are typos and not due to any lack of diligence with research. Any book of the scope of TBM will have some typos, but most authors would just ignore them and pretend they are not there. Your corrections will take care of the problem.

Caramba. Stuck in Spain on vacation and unable to check out TBM. Argh! Really looking forward to the 1000 top 45s. Finally Eddi Trotter will receive the appreciation he has secretly craved for all these years.

Transit of the German TBM-contingent seems to fall in line with our olympic swimmers: slow. Regardless of how many typos and errors you'll detect, MTM, I want to hold the damn thing. Soon! (tying trembling hands to table again)

Mark - Can you create an exact size replacement scan for #741 - I"m Your Man"? I have the label here, as scanned for the Top 1000 if you don't have it handy. I can then upload to the blog and also place it here. The scan would have the correct number positioned in the centerhole as well.

Yes - created so that the replacement image duplicates the specifications (resolution, size, numeral ranking) used to create the Top 1000 scans. I was thinking those of us who wish to do so could cut out the label and affix it to the page.
Also, if you could send me directly by e-mail and entire page full of I'm Your Man" label scans, so I can then replace the scan within each book that goes out?

Actually, more likely my fault Mark. Either way, apologies.
On a project as vast and lengthy as this blunders are unavoidable, I'm actually relieved that there are so few.

Great tribute to Greg Shaw by the way. There's actually more text than I expected which is very cool. Your part on the pre-64 days made me hope for a similar work on the teen scene from those first years of rock'n'roll. Hopefully your work will inspire someone who knows a lot about this to do what you did.
