Teenbeat Mayhem launch date......

I worked on the 45 reissue list for the book. But that was seven years ago now. Since the a LOT has happened on the repro/reissue front. How will you cover this?

There was also alot of boots included in the listing. Maybe there are some gaps from this new listing, so you could make some use of it. It took a while to put together.
I could resend it if you've lost it.

The mean average is used for sports performance scores, and this is a very similar process including a small population and a finite scale and seems appropriate. As to the second book, perhaps you should include a CD version of the data tables so mathmatic geeks can devise their own grading from your raw data. I'd suggest the median plus one standard deviation.

Of course, I withdraw any suggestion, comment, or inference that would slow the publication and distribution of the main tome.

I decided to expand the '60s garage bootleg 45 listing based upon input here and from others so I had to drop the reissue listing, not enough page space to include it.
This will have to be an online project as it's changing all the time.

Imagine a TBM release thread dating back to when MTM first announced it!

Sure thing!

I've been battling a very bad arthritis flare-up the past week. It has seriously affected my ability to keep up my 9-12 hr days sitting at my desktop PC working on tbm. I haven't had a flare this bad in several years.
Instead of being done by March 5th as I was planning, I still have 135 pages left (out of 400) to finalize. It takes me at least one hour per page, so if you do the math, and I can get back to my regular workpace, I should be done by the third week in March.
First item to go up and running again will be the tbm blog - It is currently "dark" , holding space. I'll make posts on the progress from getting the company website up and running, the printing process and all of that interesting stuff. Probably post some 45s too.
Good news is that all of the photos I had been waiting for have arrived, Ben is doing the photo layout as I type. Very cool shots!

Has any thought been given to at least updating the G-1000 list and making it available prior to the book release? Or perhaps at least the top 300?
It certainly wouldn't affect the sales or the impact that this book will have upon release. I'm not only excited about the near completion of this massive undertaking by Mike, but also the incredible conversation it will elicit on the forum! Keep up the great work, Mike!

This, or the book, I'd pay for both! The List was a fun read and basis for a lot of friendly competition amongst fellow enthusiasts. I hope it will be continued once the book is out & time permits.

This may be a bit off subject, but, if someone were to make a cd of the top 17 or 18 songs listed on that TBM list, would that cd be considered the very best of the best "Garage Rock" ever assembled? Even if the answer is "no", I bet it would be one killer cd comp.

That was the whole point of the 8 year long song rating by consensus project, Tom!
The Top 1000 will depict the results by the color record label scans we did. I thought from the get-go that a list would be the best manner to present the labels in the book, instead of just randomly selected labels of all types.
If anyone has any complaints regarding the Top 100 or even the Top 10 listing results, they can go listen to America Idol pop pap, ha ha. "Get out of the garage, loser!"

Hi Gang,

Someone had asked me as to the current status of TeenBeat Mayhem! as we reach the close of April, so I thought I'd let everyone know, via G45.

We are so very close to putting the wraps on the book! We will be completed around mid-May, if not earlier.
The good news is that I will not require pre-payment of purchases - the books will be printed, and delivered to me, and then, the free-for-all can commence for ordering.

Here are the stats for the book, just to recap:

Hardcover with laminate glossy front and back cover (book print lingo = casebound adhesive)
400 pages; the last 64 pages are full color - showcasing TeenBeat Mayhem's official Top 1000 all time best USA garage songs in ranked order depicted by the scan of the record label, as well as additional color pages showcasing an assortment of picture sleeves

First print run will be limited to 2,000 copies.
A second print run is anticipated, however, depending on how quickly the first run sells out. So you guys here (all members!) better come through and pony up for a copy!

It also looks like I will be able to keep the book's retail cost at my original calculation, that is, $99.95.
There will be no distribution or wholesale outlets. All orders for the book will be conducted through my own publishing company website. So, it is total hands-on from me: from the book concept/ creation all the way down the line to dropping off customer packages at the Post Office.

The website is being tested and de-bugged as we speak. I have just applied for my ISBN number package and other cataloging details (copyright, CIP, etc). In the next few weeks, I will have more details available and perhaps be ready to submit an official press release. Once I get everything proofed, I will have a few gally copies printed at my local printer, so that selected review outlets can have something to review prior to the official print run.

Yes, kiddies, MopTopMike's long, arduous, behemoth of a task is just about done. No one is more elated, and wiped out, than I. It took a LOT longer than I had hoped (right, Don Julio?), but the readers will be rewarded tenfold.

And then, there will be the 2nd Teenbeat Mayhem Book, solely created and marketed for the statistical oriented '60s garage geeks within our crowd. I should have that ready to go to print by the end of the summer. Roughly 150 pages, listing each song voted on for the Teenbeat Mayhem garage-o-meter rating. This limited print book will list every song, indexed by title, followed by the cabinet member's vote results tally. Also, I will show the full rankings from the song voted #1 all the way down to the worst song (everyone voted it as a "1" , which is currently at 14.700. Readers can see how their personal favorites fared to the cognoscenti.

Congratulations, Mike!
Good to hear that you finally accomplished that big piece of work. I can imagine your relief.
Will it be possible to order it via Wolfgang Voelkel? That would be convenient for me, as I'm a regular customer of his. And there are quite a few I believe.

Hi Axel,

No distributors, you'll have to order it directly from me. Too much of a hassle and I don't want to have to compete against myself to sell copies of my own book.
As much as I hate to use them, I'll probably have to offer paypal payments for overseas customers only.

Excellent news! Can't wait to get my copy. Hopefully this labor of love has been more love than labor for you. We all appreciate it!

I guess you could sell more if you had some sort of distribution, but I can understand your motives. I will buy it either way. Paypal would be cool indeed.
