Finally, the first batch from the negatives I bought a few years ago. Razor sharp images of the London Raiders live in L.A. (I have the dates and such, need to get back the envelopes the negatives were stored in first. I'll update his post)

A big thank you goes out to Frank aka Rev.Sideburn for the help with developing the scans. Not always easy with dated formats!

Would have liked to have seen a group shot but still fantastic. Any clue as to the venue?

I think the venue might be listed on the envelope. I seem to recall the date is also listed. Will check. Yeah, a group shot would've been nice.

what are you using to scan the negatives? I used a flatbed scanner with adapter on some negs I have, but wasnt thrilled with the results.

I'll check with my photo-scanning slave. He's got access to professional equipment.

the envelope sezzzzzzz "The London Raiders" from Los Altos.
I really dig the pics of the kids dancing.

I´scan the rest, and hand you the negs and envelopes this week Mr." Slaveboss" Segment

@chas. I use an Epson 3200 Photo flatbed scanner with negativ adapter. It´s pretty good, but I´m not used to scan negatives this way. The result is ok though.

London Raiders.

at the Cinnamon Tree, San Carlos, 01/21/66

Argh, f*ck. Yes, the London Raiders. Sorry about that. I haven't had the envelopes with the names on them for almost 2 years. Frank has painstakingly added one and one pixel to recreate each picture;), so I've ended mixing up the name. The London Raiders. Anyone know anything about them? Impossible to Google if I remember correctly.

Did some digging and got a hold of Chris Walsh, who was in the band at one time during its existence. He provided some excellent info:

Sean Rudd, drums- Ed Nelson, vocals/guitar, Brian Shaw, bass- Me guitar/vocals. There was a short red haired guy, Robbie I think that played lead before me. I was with the band in ’64 & ’65. There was a record, released as the Plastic People with Ed fronting. The single, ”Who Can Tell” features Ed and some studio guys, produced by Steve Love (who worked with Tommy Roe). Rodney Bingenheimer was already establishing himself as a tastemaker and he helped us. He recommended us to a promoter that put us opening for Them on a couple of their first dates. We did a bunch of the Longshoreman’s Hall gigs that were an early collaboration between Bill Graham and Chet Helms. By that time the group was called the Columbus Group and later the Rubiyat. I thought the place we played in Redwood City was called Cinnamon Cinder. At any rate in Jan. 1966 I was with the Columbus Group, which was originally that group but by then had no other members from LR. I had also moved to SF by then. We became the Rubiyat a couple of months later. If it’s properly dated it may be a post me version of the band. Sean had said he was going to put the band back together when he left the Columbus Group.

Wow, thanks Mike! Great to have a story behind the pictures. Got to start looking for that Plastic People 45 now.

cool stuff, but, honestly, the audience shots are way cooler than those of the band - you rarely get to see great action shots like this that show the young hyped up audience cuttin a rug to all these kinda bands. So much for anti-social 60 punk snot, lol, this music really brought people together

.....which reminds me of question: do you all know of any cool sites that just have pics of high school dances/all ages venues from the 1960's/early 70's? it'd be cool to get a list of links for all that - there must be tons of high school websites that have up-loaded at least a little bit of their yearbook photos from back then. hmm? maybe thats a new project for me actually(??)

theres innumerable sites loaded with photos of garage bands, but few that specifically show the audiences that interacted specifically with teenbeat music....also, a thread of photos featuring 60s bands playing in actual garages (ala The Alarm Clocks) would be great...i wonder if there are anymore photos of bands playing in actual high school class rooms (ala The Beau Denturies?)?

I agree it's of interest though I usually shy away from these photos in auctions. I have a really great photo of one of the guys in Canadian band The Ardels (Piece of jewlery) shot from behind, huge audience captured. But it comes in the form of a Dias negative:confused:
