Between the fact that I live in Colorado which did not issue a vast number of local 45's in the 60's, and the fact that I work M-F, and most sales begin on Friday, I have had very little luck scoring 45's in the wild.

However, last Friday, during a much-needed mental health day, I decided to drive around looking for garage/estate sales. I drove up to a gated community which was having a neighborhood sale. I went from garage to garage without seeing a single record (lotsa casettes and some 8-tracks). I had done the complete loop & was approaching the final house before leaving the gated community. As I walked up, a man came out & asked me if I was looking for anything in particular. I told him I was looking for records. He got kind of a funny grin, and said "you mean like 33's and 45's?"
"Yes."
"Man, before I moved out here, I used to be on a mailing list for (call letters of some radio station in Seattle). They would send me copies of all the new records they got in. Of course, this was probably 50 years ago. I held a garage sale in Seattle before moving out here, but nobody wanted the records, so they all went to Goodwill."

We continued talking, and I asked him if he was familiar with the Wailers and the Sonics. "Oh Yeah. I was friends with some of the Wailers. I didn't know the Sonics personally, but remember them. They had a hit with a song called The Witch."

Anyway, we talked for about 45 minutes about all kinds of local 60's bands and teen clubs in the Pacific Northwest. It was all very fascinating to me, and he seemed to really enjoy talking to somebody much younger than him, that was totally into & knowledgeable about his teen years. But what I considered the coolest bit of knowledge, which I wanted to share with all of you, is that he was the keyboard player for the Scotsmen, who put out 1 45 on Panorama.

I know that for many of you guys, this stuff is all in a days work. But for me, the whole experience really made my weekend!

That's cool, especially for the complete randomness.
The radio station he was talking about was probably KJR. There was another Seattle station that played rock-n-roll/top 40, I don't remember what it was except someone telling me about it.

Mark Harkness, the guitarist for the Daze of the Week/Grotesque Mommies, sells at the annual Tacoma record show which was last weekend. He does not have any of his 45s for sale though
