The Sky Is Black

I think Paul has defended himself very clearly, and I don't believe he's subject to the ridicule he's receiving (nope - never met him nor emailed him). If he shared the entire comp - or even some rare songs - I'd say "off with his head." Posting a label scan, and then applying credit to Mark? Not so evil. I see photos and songs I posted on 60sgaragebands.com created into YouTube videos weekly, without any credit given. Those are the scumbags that Mark was warning against - not, I believe, somebody like Paul that was sharing his admiration for a favorite band/song.

But posting material to a very public site like 60sgaragebands is a wee bit different from posting things to a "members only" site. Yes?

That's a very valid point, no doubt. I just don't think in this case the "punishment" equals the "crime". I'm not saying what Paul did is right - only that he had good intentions in doing it, and wasn't trying to sneak one by. I'd agree with everybody else if I thought he was taking advantage in any way of Mark's generousity. From what he's written, I don't believe that to be the case.

Sorry for the "outburst". I had no idea who the source was when I wrote it. Nothing gets my ire fired up more than outright disobeying of something that is commonly understood around here in this bunker - we ask that you enjoy for yourself.
People who are involved, and not just lurkers / rarely participating, etc. should be privvy to goodies provided by those who wish to offer them. That's why Mark set up the secret Society.

Apparently people were all typing when I posted. My post was written after Joey D's post, so all the rest were not seen / or posted at the time. I did not stay on G45 after I wrote it as I had to do something else, so I'm reading this thread now.

The original comment made it read (to me) as if someone posted the entire contents of Mark's Compilation a web blog. That is unacceptable, of course, and grounds for immediate dismissal off G45.

As someone who has been doing all kinds of research with intent to share, I completely disagree with the "it's OK / acceptable" to take items posted previously by other folks and place them on your own blog / website without asking. Then, if you receive permission from the other source, then tag with appropriate credits
Or, if you do not want to bother contacting the source, just provide a link to the source website like youtube, etc.

If I decide to write something about a group on my blog, but I don't have access to images, clips or label scans, I would just post a link directed to any of those items, which takes the viewer / reader to the website.

Proper steps to 1 Ask then 2 credit / annotate the source is just common sense, something I was taught in elementary school, a requirement for submitted written work all thru high school and college. Is this just not taught anymore? Am I too old?

Quoting from Bosshoss there is only one rule in this bunker an "Inviolable one, to not share any of the contents with anyone who does not have a key" i presume contents means everything whether it is a song or the whole.

Now I am not trying to get on Paul, but I think this situation paints a crystal clear picture, and that this bunker should be taken as what it is, a secret , i have friends that are also record collectors, music enthusiasts...etc and I have not revealed this place. I mean the requirements are indeed easy!

I really hope this will not be a deterrent for future contributions.

Thanks Mike,

Look guys, you have to believe me I meant no harm, I've read all the comments above and I am not blase enough to not see and understand what you've also said, I understand the 'secret' aspects to this message board and I do respect all the above.

As stated I only used The Try-angle cos it is known quantity, I never even thought people would be so uptight, I never realised my small blog would have caused such outrage. The blog for me is simply a cathartic release for the moments when life becomes too much.

I still don't feel what I've done is bad, there are folks who have Youtube channels full of tracks ripped from Ebay listings, comps and albums at times NEVER honouring the band as people, with my blog I try and at least honour these people.

I'm sorry for upset caused, I hope if anything this action has taught Us all where the lines stand y'know?

I too hope this hasn't deterred folks from sharing things

If I had technical know-how, I'd love to share stuff I have, I simply have no idea how to though!

You only have to hear my own 45s and LP to know how much this music is absorbed into my soul... Its seriously more than just a bunch. Of hip tracks for me, it is the way I live life... Those songs are my life, the 60s garage mentality is what I live and I know a few of you will know what I mean when I say that, cos only a few of us live this music and still survive with our minds intact.

Anyway I hope we could move on from this?

Mario, you're mis-reading my post!

I am in friends with other collectors of this stuff mario and have discs upon discs of unheard stuff, which I've never shaared before... I just don't like being given shit for something which doesn't even warrant it.

Also you quoted me in the wrong manner, I wasn't proclaiming that the royal I loves garage more than anyone else, I was subjectively suggesting that I love this music as much as the next guy on here.

It bothers me not either way.... I feel I have done nothing wrong, a few of you guys do....I'm waiting on Mark whom in talking with feel will be okay with my blog post.

I however will never take shit from anyone and am clearly sticking up for myself.

:p I'm just messin' with you Paul!

But moving on now --->

Ever consider doing a cover of the Try-Angle? Judging by your particular sound, I think it would make for a good try. Your voice would be a good fit.

yeah I have considered doing 'writing on the wall', maybe a little later down the line

Covers I have planned this year are.... The Five Bucks - No Use In Trying (recording next weekend) and The Paradox - There's A Flower Shop (maybe around Christmas Time)

Not only would my voice make for a good fit, but emotionally the above songs are there happening in my life too....'Writing On The Wall' geez that's been my life for the last 3 months.

With all these wonderful Orlyn releases, did any of them ever make any dents in the charts at all?Which one sold in the greatest amounts? Which one is considered the rarest?
And....
Which single Orlyn 45 one is your favorite? :)

Well everyone knows what my favourite is....

However I've really dug The Heard 45 and The Patrick and The Shamrocks, The Graf Zeppelin one is a person favourite also.

Rarest Orlyn for "garage" = Delcords "Wipeout". Even the guys in the group completely forgot about this one!

Orlyn label pressings were vanity pressings, funded and paid for by the client/group.
If a song got any "airplay" (doubtful) it was the responsibility of the band members to promote their recording.

That also seems to be the only known instance of a band having TWO singles on the label...wonder why that is?

I posted a link to an ebay auction a couple years ago for an ORLYN LP. It appeared to be a female glee club affair. But, it does pose the question, could there be a garage ORLYN LP? Let's keep our fingers crossed. Paul, I think your best course of action is a humble apology. I did foolish things when I was young and am grateful to those who forgave me. Your justifications aren't doing you any good. Those are the things you tell yourself before you make a bad decision not your response when someone calls you out. I feel sure you're a nice guy who simply made a mistake. Welcome to the club. Now let's have some fun.

I spoke with Mark and he was totally cool with my blog post and as far as I am concerned this topic is ceased.

The age old saying now is 'water under the bridge'

I am pretty cool to have FUN.... and I do apologise to anyone who was upset with my actions and I will be sure to not do a thing akin to that again.

HUG ME BABY, SUFFER

Man do I ever feel late to the party!!! That is what I get for being too busy to be hanging at the G45 site! Damn I can't wait to download all this Orlyn mania. I have said it before but Hoss youz da coolest!!!!

All Flacs downloaded, converted and burned I am now listening to disc 1. Wow it sounds amazing Mark! Great to hear all these elusive records in one place. So what is the relation to the Ryells Combo & The Treez, has that been discussed?
