The Sloths (reunion show)

Most of the people who attend reunion shows for the groups who made one or two 45s in the 60s are friends, and just want to share the moment / effort. These folks could care less about the music itslef, and will gladly dance to "Mustang Sally" and "Midnight Hour".

Mike, you reminded me of something I wanted to post here just for laughs. My bandmate Bob found this:

Per Mike Stax, the Sloths are basing their entire show on their 1965-1966 sound. I think they'll surprise people. And get this while you can...

The main thing missing alot of times with the 60s garage band reunion shows is the edginess of the original songs. That edginess is a key ingredient also, so once that is removed, the music just doesn't pack the wallop of the original article. But after all, these guys are not in their teens-early 20s anymore so that to an extent should be expected. I appreciate it that some of these groups are making appearances still and are celebrating their music however. Personally I've seen some excellent, enjoyable shows from some of the old guard. ? and the Mysterians were a blast when I caught them in Montreal 2 years ago, Fred Cole is still playing killer shows in Pierced Arrows these days (of course don't get me stated on the half-dozen great Dead Moon shows I've witnessed as well), some excellent Roky Erikson & the Explosives performances including 2 with Billy Gibbons sitting in, and maybe the biggest surprise of all were the Novas (with the original drummer from the Outcasts) during SXSW 2010 who did a very short but very cool set.
On the flip side of the coin, I've seen some pretty terrible sets from the likes of Zakary Thaks (all sporting Hawaiian print shirts and with phaser on the guitar the enitre set!), the Green Fuz, and Kenny & the Kasuals.
I'll finally get to see the Sonics next month in NYC for the Norton 25th Anniversary. And if I get the chance someday I would definitely like to see the Remains and the Pretty Things in action.

So as per the Sloths reunion why not go if you have the chance? If it sucks, you can always leave. And if it's great, well then you will be there to witness it and experience it, and not have to hear later about how you missed a great show.

It was Saturday. Did anybody here go?

Yes.

I ended up going as promised. It was a drag getting out to San Diego  but worth it in the end! Michael and company put on a good performance.

He's a real nice guy, too. I've started to correspond with him a little since Saturday.

But if this past weekend wasn't cool enough, they've already agreed to play with my buddies here at this event at the end of the month. This will be an even greater time in my opinion! I get to see my friends play, and in the end, see the Sloths once again ;)

Mario.

That was actually quite cool. I wouldn't buy the album but they were certainly better than The Standells. He still had a voice. Are they all from the original Sloths?

Too bad the copy of Sloths offered at the Olympia recordfair (London, UK) , a week ago, were cracked.

The seller also showed me a picture of the band playing in October (LA??). Looked wicked cool.
