Thrift Store Treasures

I surmise that the songs were mastered direct off an acetate / lacquer that had been played several times - not from a tape source.
The playback sound quality is far too poor to have been caused by regular needle / playback wear on a vinyl pressed 45.
Mastering from a lacquer was a cheap option.

Rite pressing plant would accept acetates or tapes. I believe that on Rite pressings, the designation OM meant that the source sent a acetate from which was directly used to make the first stamping plate that made the 'mother' disk.

A classic example of this (to my ears) is the Head and the Hares 45 on H&H, has the played acetate hiss all the way through.

The Roots "Been a long journey" sounds like there was a problem in the tape recording (or playback) like the head(s) were out of alignment. Would like to know what the true cause of the swooshing sound was.

Head & The Hares, the Renegades on Polaris, The Stoics are three hissy playback examples caused by mastering from a lacquer.
The Revens "For You" on Night Owl is one of the worst mastering jobs I've heard, Jim Kirchstein must've been on vacation or out of the office on that day.

I found this today.
The Sunn - How Does It Feel / Walk On By Hiperbolic Records.

Walk On By has an Eastern vibe going on then rather traditional arrangements for the vocal parts then back to the trippy eastern bits.
Other side has Fuzz guitar, Hammond organ?, Youngsters with a late 60s sound

Can't find anything about them Except maybe from Florida.

Anyone know more?
