So freakin' happy. I've always loved this song and the top side is fantastic too, a new listen for me.
Also pleased with -
Otis Williams and His Charms - Don't Wake Up The Kids (cool 50's R n B)
Max Frost - Shape of Things
Country Joe and The Fish - Not So Sweet Martha Lorraine.

All 50 centers.

So here as promised somewhere on the forum, a compilation made entirely of cheapskate finds all under a dollar. I'm guessing this cost a little less than $20. It is a mix of styles from Bluegrass to Garage. I tried to make it as rockin' as possible but some tracks were too good or so obscure I had to slip them in there.

Sorry the artwork is crappy but my computer can't do much better, thought had everything sized right to fit a CD but shit I have had enough of fiddling. Here is your link to the whole Album -

Flung, Thrifted and Black. Vol 1.

This makes up for my lackluster ARC. Less than a dollar.

Nicely done... another Texas killer unearthed. El Paso record and probably the best "rockabilly" single from El Chuco and it looks to be super clean. Can't even wrap my mind around a $$$$ value on it. Somewhere around two grand? And I'll never likely find one...

Downloaded, burned to CD and listening in the car. This one is a winner so far.
That "homemade horn" solo, if you don't know, is a kazoo. Been playing it at work a lot (in the kitchen I'm a cook for now!!) which gets a few laughs for all the country foods he misses until it gets to the solo then it is "what the fuck is that nasty noise!" The Top side "Lonely Tramp" is a great too. Maybe for Vol 2. or 3..lol. remember to dance.

Oh and this is from '57 not '56. Never trust the internet or tired eyes.

Sympathise with MTM proof reading a whole book. I can't do a list of 30 correctly....

More feedback appreciated good or bad. I wanna please you all the best I can. ;) I kept a lot of commonish garage stuff off just because you've heard it before.

xx

I'm stoked to find out it's a TX record. Is it written up somewhere? Maybe this is one of those instances when the internet is useless despite this being a "known" record among cognoscenti. The only personal item I was really able to find was a '56/'57 reference to Johnny Garmon being a football quarterback--is that the same guy?

HH: I can--at the very least--own it for a while. However, Westex' valuation def gives me pause....

THIS IS ONE OF MY TOP WANTS! Before it was The Celtics on Lin Jo. I don't think this should be that expensive (;) although condition is superb. Johnny Garmon released three discs on Missile (his own), the rarer is the last The Shadows Dance. Great find Dominic! whenever you want to part with it, please keep me posted.:)
Westex never say never let's keep our hopes up! haha...

Al Sims and The Alpine Two - PArty (Listen)
Al Sims - Green Gator Ater. (Yucca)
Max Alexander and the Hi Fi Combo - little Rome (Caprock) I have the later on Antique Records under another pseudonym Joe Gene & the Cordells
Frank Gonzales and THe Palisades - Sweet Little Surfing Girl (F-G)
Frank Thayer's two discs on his own Outlaw Label

I bet a VG+ would likely go for close to 2Gs... far lesser copies have gone for serious money.

Hogsville Hickwash! Nice compilation! I see many local 45's you have dug up! Many from the Midway Studios, which I just got done researching. Also, Paul Selan, Jr. and I are getting together and I plan on a MOJO'S webpage from my interview with him. Stay tuned, and thanks for the cool compilation of Washhicks Villehogs!

There were a few more local 45s that I may stick on another one someday. I didn't want to hurt thee garage lovers ears with banjoing n' fiddling too much.

http://www.southern.ohiou.edu/faculty/jarrett/music-mojos.html - I like those Mojos a lot wish I could find me some... of their output

....and tiger do you know about the Pyramid band (last track on comp)? Run out has "Buffalo Creek" etched in... I guessed on the year as the disaster happened in Feb '72. Label is outta VA but it's gotta be a WV band/....?? I deduce Watson...

Not often that local thrifts produce decent records around here, but I pulled this out of a joint I visit maybe once a year.

The only promo record in the box... weird.

That guitar is just amazing...

Amazing blog! The 45's you find, and research is impressive, and you are a real musicologist! Besides, you seem to find some mind-blowing 45's! Very cool find!

"I like those Mojos a lot wish I could find me some... of their output"

Hicksville- I talked with Paul, the bass player from the Mojo's on Sunday. He brought me one of his 45's, and a Bluegrass LP he was on, in the 1970's. Extremely cool guy. He said his Dad pressed up about 500-1000 copies (max) and he figured that the whole project cost his Dad around 300-400 dollars, which is 10x that by today's standards. A few interesting stories about each band member, and some funny ones about lead singer Joe Clatworthy. Joe was only 15 in that amazing photo above! Paul was 2 years older. That webpage mentions local DJ, Jay Jerrell and I bought his record collection a few years ago. He collected Big Band music, and Ray Conniff records, but I found in his 45's some cool stuff. He told me, there is a taped competition between The Mojo's and the Parliaments of Huntington (Issac Banks & Archie Himons band- Not the George Clinton band), and they were teens, that were hailed as the winners. I am in touch with the State (payed) WV historian (also a record collector, which is kinda funny) to find that taped concert! That would be really cool stuff.
As for the Pyramid Band, You got that one on me, I've never seen it or heard it until your comp! ALSO, stay in touch, I know you are working on weekends, but I am having a 1.00 sale on every record in the store, then calling it quits, as I find KISS white trash to be utterly annoying. Taking the show on the road, so to speak. Cheers.
