Thrift Store Treasures

Another nice little pile of garage from a "junk"
store.

Gregory Dee - The Grind
The Escapades - Mad Mad Mad
Blue Things - Orange Rooftop
Bocky & Visions - I Go Crazy
Butch Engel & Styxs - Going Home
The Raves - Mister Man
Peanut Butter Conspiracy - It's a Happening Thing
Bob Seger and the Last Heard - East Side Story on cameo

All from my newly found hot bed of pretty nicely kept 45s.

I have not come across anything that good in years at area thrift stores.
It was actually a video game/ comics/ reselling place. They started bringing in some lps and 45s. 2 bucks a 45 is a bit steep for me. 😂😂 But it is currently clear of all garage.

Multiple copies of the Montanas - Difference of Opinion are still in there. I got one of those too.

Not sure if it's luck or just a lack of people near here hunting the same kind of stuff.

My British accent I'm sure goes a long way with some of the more owner run antiques and thrift places rather than the large chains. Some save a new box for me to go through first. And it helps if I run across something that seems rare but not my thing I tell the owner... Hey this test pressing of Carpenters hit might be worth something more than your selling. Of course the rare garage is only ever worth a dollar....

😉 Usually.

Good to see a British accent still opens a door now and then. In 1975 an American R&B group collector and myself visited an old distributor in Erie PA. I was allowed to view the records; the American was told: 'Not you, sonny. You had your chance 20 years ago.' Of course I made sure to snag the few R&B records in the heaps of dreck in the place. The American ended up with twice as many 45s as I did. Which isn't saying much, although I did score a stock copy of Buddy Covelle on the orange Coral label.

Not my usual thrift store stuff.

We currently have a photographic exhibition in my Museum of local bands, (I shared some, somewhere here) mid 60's through the 70s, and some national touring bands that came through WV.

I ain't got it yet but have been promised The Mojos - What She's Done To Me / Go . One for the crazed garage freak curator and one for the museum. Never played, I'm so chuffed. The guy who saved all the photos put me in contact with one of the members knowing he still had a few left from '66.

It's another local one I never thought I'd get. Merry Xmas to Me.

Up where I live you are lucky to find any records for sale at thrift stores etc, let alone bona fide garage 45s. However, I just spent a few days visiting relatives in a more populous part of the country and found a few 45s at a local market for $1 each.

The only one to really count as garage was Ray Brown and The Whispers - Fool, Fool, Fool/ Go To Him. I've already got it, but it might be a better copy. No chance to play it yet.

So, nothing special really, but it revives hope. The downside is that it reconfirms the knowledge that I will probably have to travel a few thousand kilometres from home if I want to catch anything in the wild!

Not a thrift store but an antique mall a couple of weeks ago, one booth had a one of those metal carrying cases for 45s from the 50s/60s full of records for $25. A lot of junk but also some cool stuff including:

The Burning Bush - "Evil Eye" (Mercury)
The Delights - "Every Minute, Every Hour, Every Moment" (Smash)
The One Way Street - "Yard Dog" (Smash)
The Tyme of Day - "I Wanna Know" (Mercury)
The Tea Company - "Flowers" (Smash)

Plus a few other cool things, including a couple of soul singles and a Diana Dors acetate from 1966. Interesting, everything of interest was part of the Smash/Mercury label family.
