what should be re-issued now??

And how about the Moonrakers from Denver?

The Moonrakers self-released a CD about three years ago. It wasn't complete but featured around 15-17 songs...available here: http://www.moonrakers.us/Merchandise.htm

The Moonrakers CD wasn't from the masters, so very disappointing. I'd like to see the Dovers on CD from the masters. Also, so many of the classic garage singles came out on major labels and yet none of the majors have ever reissued any garage comps.

It would be nice if the majors would comp their garage material, but I think it's the red-haired stepchild for the big boys (rockabilly has fared a little better, but not much). EMI had a garage set compiled by Ron Furmanek that never got released. There's been a thread or two here where I've asked about what's lurking in the major's vaults, and it appears there's more than a fair number of things we'd probably enjoy having reissued.

Too bad about the EMI stuff (don't remember/know what catalogues they own) but it seems to be possible prying stuff lose. Both Sundazed and Kent have done it. But I guess it is a costly procedure? Would have been fantastic if Ace could have had access to the RCA garage stuff since Kent already have re-issued some of RCAs soul sides. If there are any masters left...

EMI controls Capitol, Liberty, Imperial, Dolton, and probably a few others I've missed. Sundazed has reissued some of the RCA stuff, but labels like CBS/Epic, and the MCA labels like Decca, Dot, and Kapp are mostly MIA. I'd guess licensing issues are keeping things off the shelves.

Yes, they (Universal) charge something to the effect toward selling 20,000 or more copies of any reissued project. If less than that, it doesn't pay (not cost-effective) to bother to license songs from their archive.
Also, many masters were lost via fire and floods in storage locations during the 70s/80s.
