What should I reissue first?

I am thinking about putting out a few very limited 45's on the B-W record record label that I bought a few years back. I am thinking of doing a limited press of some unreleased 60's garage and psych i have in the archives.

If I can break even on each release I would be more than happy! Actually I was hoping to create a tax write-off for 2011

Of the sound clips below which one do you think should be the first revived B-W release. Let me know which one you like.

I would press up 100 to 300 at the most, would have a picture sleeve. I would do them up right. Would anyone bye it?

Both Picadilly Square and Royal Chessmen are fantastic! The Childs smile one is also OK but the other two are killers!

I'd rate the Royal Chessmen as the best of the bunch followed by Picadilly Square and then Child's Smile. I'd buy them.

Each band featured here has 2 originals, all are good. So each 45 would have 2 originals by the same band. What is the consensus as far as how many to press? I am thinking only 100 to 200.

The Piccadilly Square band has a neat story... The lead man in the band Bruce Geyer went to school in England at a "American" military school and played in several bands including the Astranaughts. Any of you guys from the UK now if their are any recordings out by the Astranaughts? He graduated from the school in 1966 and enrolled at Ohio University. The recordings were meant to be released on the Discotech label, but Bruce dropped out and moved to Massachusetts.

Are you asking how much they will sell for? I really haven't thought about it, guess I will have to see what the total pressing cost will be. For all you guys that buy Reissue type 45's would $10 - $12 be to much for a Top Notch Unreleased garage / psych 45?

$12 is about the top price you could charge and even then there would be folks complaining about the price.
I'd also keep the supply low (as you said 100 copies) to increase potential demand.

Remember that not everyone who buys original 45s bothers with re-issues or the release you have in mind.

It would be pointless having stacks of copies you couldn't shift.

I agree with Expo67, I for one NEVER buy re-issues, released or unreleased, sorry.
But maybe just to make it more interesting if you are producing only 100 copies numbering them out of 100 might make it more attractive to those who buy re-issues.....

All of these are GREAT, but personally I'd much rather have them collected on an LP compilation than on separate 45's. A #ed vinyl-only comp (100 or 200 copies) with these songs included would sell out in no time, almost no matter what you charge.
But of course, you would need to include 6-8 more comp-worthy songs from your archives...

I completely agree with mr.Pfft. Would have been cool to have a legit vinyl 60s comp out again. Maybe silkscreen and number them, or do a job like Companion did with the recent Hubbs re-issue if you have seen it. Would sell out in a jiffy!

I probably wouldn't bother buying a compilation LP (unless I've got nothing else to spend my disposable income on)....You'll probably find within days some jerk has put a downloadable link on a blog at 320kbits for it with high res artwork thus probably killing loads of potential sales.
Of course not everyone goes for the download game.

However, as a 45 collector, I would certainly buy a double sided single with pic sleeve.

This is true if we're talking about a CD comp, but I'm quite positive it will have minimal effect on the sales if it's a vinyl-only comp.

The DL problem is unavoidable no matter what - a 45 reissue will be available for DL just as soon as an LP will, so I'm afraid your sales loss point is moot.

I think it is all down to personal taste, some people prefer compilation albums, some prefer 45 re-issues.
If I went for any re-issues, I would prefer the 7" 45 format.

I agree, I think 100 numbered copies is the way to go. Maybe after I do the 45 releases I can issue them on lp with a couple of songs that haven't been released on 45 yet.

When I met Quentin Welty before he passed away, he still had a box of original 60's label stock! To bad the family through them away otherwise I could have used the original label stock for these releases.

I talked to Musicol Recording in Columbus and am going to have them press up the records. I get to sit in on the mastering and then I get a tour of the pressing plant! I have always wanted to check out Musicol anyway so I can kill 2 birds with one stone.

Here are sample of the B-sides and the One Way Street songs. This is the same One Way Street band that recorded Jack The Ripper on Sunrise. These tunes were recorded in 1968 and obviously they could play better and the lead singer was different. Please excuse the quality of the transfer of the No Room No Place song, I recorded it with the levels to high.
