Does anyone know the story on The Painted Ship's demo or alternate version of Frustration? I've loved this song since I heard it on my first garage comp and had no idea that there was another version out there. Apparently it has appeared on Gravel Vol. 4 (?), but was it ever pressed on wax? Where did the compilers get ahold of it? Very curious about this:

This sounds familiar, so I didn't post it in the TBM thread. Clearly outsider music, but with one foot firmly in garage land.

I posted this a ways back, to huge indifference I may add 🙄! I think it's incredible, the kind of thing that a collector like Heitkotter77 would consider a holy grail. Matter of fact it reminds me of an ever-so-slightly more coherent version of what's on the Heitkotter LP!

Heitkotter LP?

Sought after outsider LP recorded while in a mental institution. He had previously been in Fresno band the Road Runners who put out four 45s including a debut on Miramar, then posthumously had an album on Beatrocket.
(Addendum - I was wrong about the "recorded while in a mental institution " part, it was actually recorded at a house in Fresno, he was however subsequently institutionalized.)

I am pretty convinced this is a late 1980s / early 1990s recording with Bill Hay and some Vancounver based retro garage guys providing the backing. It is in stereo, the original tunes were not recorded in stereo. Bill Hay used to participate in several forums like the GP Hideout in the 1990s and I think this is where the clips first posted, including a redone version of "And She Said Yes".

Thanks, Mike. I’ll have to go back and listen again with fresh ears.

Anyone know the year this was released on an acetate? The droning bass makes me wonder if someone was influenced by Silver Apples. With Lenny Drake's "Love Eyes" (similar guitar) released in 1970, my guess would be 1970/71.... but that's just a guess.

For y'all info nerds/super fans out here. An interview with Tom Konieczny out of Hoosier legendds - The Endd.
The interviewer sounds a bit like Mop Top Mike actually.
