Another new sound system

Thanks, boss - these new transfers sound fantastic! If you're still taking requests, I would love to hear these 'not exactly BFTG material, but I like the shitty-sounding clips I've heard' titles:

Sonny Woy - New Lease On Life (Crossfire)
Opun Rodes - On Your String (Blast)
Pidgie - Back Where You Belong (In)

Sure Bård. Pidgie was backed by the Bare Existence, the same guys who were hired to back up Little Peppy. But they were not credited on the release. I have the Pidgie mastertape somewhere in the pile, plus a tape of the Bare Existence doing some standard covers.

The Sur-Speed disc isn't exactly a hi-fidelity recording, but the Moon System excels at extracting an extraordinary amount of information from all but the lowest-fi 45s, as I have witnessed many times in the bunker. This ability was evident in Beware of Birds, even though I didn't have any decent source to compare it to. My desktop speakers don't exactly excel in the low-end, but I could still detect the deepness of the bass through the transients. You Know I Do really gave me a pleasant surprise though. The ability of MoonSBT to separate the instruments, and particularly to separate the vocals, and to give them their full qualities, gave an intimacy to the music: not a harsh in-your-face intimacy, but a sweet, intimacy of being present. Brilliant!

Here are a couple of the recent requests. I'll have them all up soon. Only exception is Chymes, because it's already available from mastertapes on a Sundazed 45 repress. Daniel since it's your request I'll send you a link to the Chymes flac for your own interest.

I am also going to take down the flac files after a couple of days, because they are 24//96 flacs and take up a ton of data space on the server. I'll leave the mp3s for a while longer.

These files were made with an STB Sonic Hood around the tonearm, and the addition of an SBT Sonic Stool.*

(*The SBT Sonic Stool is actually the STB Sonic T_rd, but I thought that was a bit crude, so I changed the name to something more approprite for the high standards of G45Central)

Here is a photo showing the current setup used for the above 2 transfers. You can clearly make out the Sonic Stool to the right of the tonearm. The Stool consists of a collection of random chunks of discarded STB materials which I thought were too valuable to discard. So I placed them on an Alpha Card and covered them with a special STB "sauce". The Sonic Stool is able to create its effect merely by being in the vacinity of the tonearm. Likewise the Sonic Hood, as Daniel once witnessed when visiting the bunker last year.

The tonearm is completely covered in the latest STB tape formula. So is the cartridge.

You can expand the photo by clicking on it to reveal more of the interesting texture of the Sonic Stool.

Yeow! Those two transfers in post #93 were very nuanced, Mark! Although they had all the detail you'd expect in a master tape, they had warmth and subtlety which you wouldn't expect in a master tape. Thank you for these transfers; I love them! As you say, I've witnessed the effect a sonic hood can have (giving the sound a more accurate focus, but with reduced harshness), but the most pronounced improvements have always been from applications to the cartridge, tonearm, and pivot mechanism; wherefore I have no doubt that the Kuzma is now outputting unprecedented audio quality. How easy is it to switch from recording to listening? I remember you saying you were removing all the tape from the cabling - if so, that would allow for easy upgrading to STB treatment.

I was wondering which mac had the better sound - or did you only compare them after you'd treated one of them? Hopefully it's the new mac with the proprietary ports.

The best sounding Mac is the one I treated, and I'm using it for all the transfers. It's an older 13" macbook pro. It's dedicated to transfers only. The new 15" one is the one I'm typing on now. It is used for general purpose. It does not sound as good as the older, treated one, but I have no way of telling how much of that is due to the treatment. I think the old one was slightly better even before the treatment, but now it's way better.

Currently I can't listen to the big system. I can only make transfers on it. There's a lot of work to be done to get it back up to scratch. I decided to remove most of the older treatments, and that is very time consuming, because the nanotape is very hard to remove. There are other maintenace problems besides that as well. Nothing serious.

I'm listening to digital transfers on the Kii speakers. And I still play 45s with the Thorens/Marshall setup in the kitchen. It sounds great with plenty of STB already in place.

I'll have to take a short break after I finish the flacs already requested. After that, I think it might be a good idea to take this underground to a private forum. If anyone would like to be included, please let me know. As far as I'm aware, there's only 6 or 7 people who are following this. Those who have made song requests in this topic don't need to ask, as they will be included automatically. Actually I will just add anyone who has clicked "like" on any flac post in this topic.

Those guys in the Cat's Meow could sing. No auto-tune needed.
