Best finds/buys of 2011 - Year End Review

They also recorded it on the Plaid label which was one of Shelley Haims labels also. I actually like the Plaid version better. I need a copy of the Plaid version so if anyone has one let me know.
Sorry, I got the two mixed up. It is the plaid version I prefer as well. My friend got one from a local flea market about 3 years ago and I've been envious ever since. Thanks for posting some of the clips. Really great.

My greatest finds this years were in the wild.

Ben Lp on Vertigo original
Deep Purple original UK press stereo
Oliver Klaus LP
All these for a total of $17.99!
Unfortunatly, these records are not really my cup of tea, but I'm sure I will be able to sell or trade them for something cool for me. Oliver Klaus I will keep for my Quebec bands collection ;)
In the 45 dept, I got the rare Dougie Day et ses Gamblers on Ideal. Band from Ontario, but with this 45 release on a Quebec label. Another really cool find for me was the Jades- Chiken fried rice 45. A great piece of R&B from the region of Abitibi Quebec.

I don't really search eBay that much for records but I found two good finds:
an original Fantastic Dee Jays LP for $3 Buy It Now
and The Moxies-I'm Gonna Stay for $11
My nephew found a box of around 100 sixties promos at an auction for around $240, lots of garage & soul including:
Flys -Be What You Is
Magic Plants-I'm A Nothing
Drongos 2 copies of the White Whale single
2 British Walker 45s on Manchester
Remains-Don't Look Back
Alder Ray-My Heart is in Danger
plus more common stuff like The Lost ,Driving Stupid, Last Word on Boom, Greek Fountains, etc

The funny part is the underbidder was the infamous "Count". He runs through this auction every week & leaves bids, suprised he didn't leave a higher bid since his selling prices are always outrageous.

Unlike his personality, which is never outrageous :)

This past year was not bad, I got lazy and did little hunt out in the wild, most of it was eBay and private lists. And no big rarities on my list...,

Garage

Danny and the Counts - You need love (Coronado)
The JuJus - You treated me bad (Fenton)
The Mystic Five - Are you for real girl (go go)
Ognir and the Nite People - I found a new love (Samron)
The Viscount V - She doesn't know (Lavette)
The Midknights - Pain (Style)
The Wild Ones - I want to be friendly(Suemi)
The Turks - Tell Me Now (Justice)
Swamp Rats - Psycho (st Clair)

Mexican garage

Los Rockin Devils - loco
Me patina el coco (wild thing) w/PS- (orfeon)
Los Matematicos - deja que Hablen (all day and all the night) ( RCA)
Los Hitters - El Flaco (shotgun) (orfeon)
Los Ovnis - la Ultima Vez ( the last time rolling stones) (Peerless)

R&b soul etc....

Long John Hunter - El Paso Rocks (Yucca)
Jerry Bright - Be Mine ( Yucca)
Bobby Fuller - Judy ( Eastwood )
Bobby fuller - I Fought the Law ( Exeter)
Barry St John - El soul de st John (fresa - Mexico) LP northern soul

And many others, but these were The highlights.

Major want found in 2011: The Valiants - Don't Make The Same Mistake (Dot)

Less exciting, but still cool, finds from last year:

Michael Blodgett - Fire Engine Sky (Capitol)
Christopher Cerf - Sweet Music (Amy - same track as covered by The Koobas.)
The Myddle Class - Don't Look Back (Tomorrow)
Capes Of Good Hope - Lady Margaret (Round)
The Northwest Company - Eight Hour Day (London - Canada)
The Kinetics - Excuses (CBS - Australia)
Raga & The Talas - My Group And Me (World Pacific)
The Chosen Few - Is This A Dream (Go!! - Australia)
The Magic Mushrooms - Look In My Face (Philips)
The Others - My Friend The Wizard (Jubilee)
Quentin E. Klopjaeger - The Long Way Home (Troubadour - South Africa) Thanks to monorock!!!
The Castells - Save A Chance (Black Gold)
MPD Ltd. - No Regrets (Go!! - Australia)

I do have to say that the WFMU Record Fair has been a surprisingly good source for Go!! label 45s; have found approx. a half dozen of them over the past 2-3 years there.

2011 was a good year for garage 45 acquisitions for me. I managed to obtain my top 2 wants:

SOUNDS OF NIGHT – Sorrow (Hap) Two-sided teenaged moodiness from the bustling outpost of Sterling City, Texas. Stories and photos to come at LoneStarStomp.[/quote]

Westex, very very psyched to read this story and see those photos - other than the Elevators more introspective moments, few bands have made a finer mesh of moody garage and texas psych than the Sounds Of Night...just curious, is the original record just as lo-fi as it seems on the Wyld Sydes vol 1 comp it appears on?

Not the rarest records in the world, but I did find these this year:

Marvin's Circus - Come to Me on MGM - long-time want, near-mint, and for less than $10.
Ides of March - Roller Coaster on Parrot - much better than the terrible-quality version on my Pebbles LP, and also for less than $10.
Beatles - Lady Madonna on Odeon - found for 2 Euros at a flea market in Berlin. Came with the German PS, which is in sorry shape, but the record is one of the cleanest Beatles records I've heard in a long time.

hey Howlin Hoosier, any way you could make this photo more high res? or is the blurriness in the photo and not in the upload/scan/whatev??

The starting shot I had needed to be cropped quite a bit to lose a lot of fore and background. I did some pruning and adjusted the color as best I could - wish I could have done better, but I don't have the original.

I'm the original source of that photo. Unfortunately it was very low res when the band sent it to me. It is a favorite, though.
