Starting a new thread...dunno 'bout you guys, but I'm tired of the dreck that pollutes eBay; in specific, 45s tagged as "garage" that are not under the loosest of definitions, and ridiculous prices for poor condition 45s. It's long past time to call these guys out, then, maybe if they do a google search, they will find this here forum thread and learn...that they are a dumbass!

Here are the two sellers to achieve the dumbass award right outta the gate:

Seller #1 "godsgifts716". He / She claims that the record they are ransom price gouging is so rare that there is no picture of it to be found on line. No info online? MEGARARE MONSTERTYME! (I blame Jorgen for that phrase) and there is scant / little information. Of course, no sound clip of this one-sided 45 virtually guarantees no one will give a rat's ass anyway:

Seller #2 - gratitude_records What, you mean we, as potential ebay bidders, should show this clown some gratitude? for overpriced, hacked to s**t Zero End 45s that should have a starting bid of $5.00 at most? Obviously clueless, but that's no excuse nowadays. Very tempted to send a best offer of $5.00 per 45.

I like when sellers write "How rare is this one? Well, one of the leading Northwest Music Archive pages on the web has very little info on this and no picture of one" when the obvious answer is that there is no info about it online because it's not worth writing about.

also, the label "NOT listed in teenbeat mayhem!" seems to become a seal of greatness for some sellers...

We just reserving this for Ebay sellers or for internet sellers generally?

With Ebay and 4 or 5 Facebook groups, I now seem to see the same over-priced records about a dozen times a day.

I got kicked off one Facebook group for pointing out the Mega Monster Rare Record - $150 was in fact readily available elsewhere for $10-20. Apparently that was bad form and I was ruining someones sale.

Yeah, that PC bulls**t is ridiculous within those Farcebook record pimping groups.

I don't even deal with Farcebook anymore , but when I was a member of several record selling pages, I too got x'nayed for revealing that a 45 could be found elsewhere for a "better" price. One of them just deleted me without even posting anything; I could not log in, and another member told me there was no mention of my post, which was deleted into the ether.

You can find a good deal every once in a while, but every group has endless, mind-numbing posts of overpriced and over-graded 45s that the seller overpaid for to add to their "DJ box".

No thanx.

while i agree that all the FB groups i've seen only peddle overpriced stuff (and to a large part crap), FB has become a very interesting hub for local teen (beat) scenes, culminating in FB groups that share info/pictures of their old scene. FB, like most things, isn't just black and white.

I posted a link to a reasonably priced repro someone was trying to gouge for on FB - and managed to survive unscathed, somehow. I like the FB groups, because you do get some very reasonable sellers there, and it's easier to get past the mega posters, although one of the most annoying eBay posters does make his presence felt. (The one who's asking prices are pretty consistently double market value.)

BTW Mike, how does this thread differ from the "Clueless eBay Sellers" thread?

I agree, many bands and scenes are on FB with tons of old photos etc. The problem is it's hard to find them or know about them. We should compile a list of good ones.

The only reason the Trenchmen asking 'value' is so high - the DJ scene.
It never sold for anywhere near that price in the '90s and even the early 2000s.
I paid near $100 for my copy, an unplayed one, from a non-internet record auction. There were a few selling every so often, I recall missing one during my early ebay days for $50.

The seller has a connection to a band member, he may be selling a couple copies every 9 months or so. I wouldn't pay that high price, but it's a great record.

If I remember right everybody's fave "mod dj" Rob put in the $ 1259 bid that reset the market .

I got my Trenchmen for free in the 2000s as part of a bigger trade. Good times. Never was a big fan though, and did not discover "the going rate" until I sold it. Nice surprise.
