From what I understand, Fly-Bi-Nites was played on the Mad Men drama series yesterday.
That's so cool. I wonder how they got in contact with the band. Did Mike Dugo help or anyone else on this board?

I was unaware of this one. That's really cool news.

They must been given quite alot of money for the inclusion of the song.
Or maybe they sold the rights to this label above? IF they get royalties from the show; pretty decent
making large bucks from a 46 year old 300 copy 45..

The gold rush to get rights to old recordings has been going on for a few years. Someone(s) had the bright idea to secure the rights, and then turn around and pitch them to the hipster generation to include in films, videos, video games, CD comps, samples, etc. Just today at the 'Siren' coffee shop I saw a comp of 'psychedelic soul' that included "Mr Kidneys" by OFS Ltd, a mediocre funk record that was originally on the Prix label from Columbus OH and had been part of a comp by the Numero group. This was alongside songs by the Temptations, Supremes, Jackson Five, Shuggie Otis, etc. There are 100s of better songs that could have been replaced the OFS Ltd but through various mechanations it happened. Numero and other labels have been on this, that is a major reason these operations secure stuff and reissue comps, they are trying to generate some interest and cash in on the future potential song placements. It's not clear how any of the artists benefit in this - some do, some don't, depends on who is still living and accessable, and the legal rights.

I watched that episode just to see how they used the song. Man, that show has REALLY gone downhill fast!
The first season wasn't bad, but now it's another boring soap opera with the usual b.s. take on the late 60s.

I didn't want to ruffle any feathers but now that my buddy Dave has chimed in...I always thought that show sucked. Walking mannequins smoking ciggies and drinking martinis. Symbolism over substance.

A couple of the members know all about the song's inclusion on the show. Neither one has made mention to me of any monies. Since one is a lawyer, I'm sure something was worked out.
And yeah, the show sucks. Muchly.

Now I just wonder how this company came in to the picture.
Their releases seem very cheap.

Again this was on telly. On the "Shameless" TV drama series last night. Again, it would be interesting to know how much they earned from this.

Yup, H&M. You could get it as a freebie cd single when buying clothes. At least in Scandinavia. Can't honestly remember when but think mid 2000s? A true Twilight Zone moment.
