Germany in the 1960s

I've only got a few 60s German 45s and nothing rare or obscure, but even some of the more 'mainstream' acts could put out some good stuff.

Schlager was mentioned in a different thread, so I'll start with two singers who probably feature in a lot of schlager comps and the like, but they got it right with this one.

Manuela und Drafi - Take It Easy

The Lords were/are a gimmicky band with their uniforms and haircuts, and a lot of their output could be considered predictable cover versions. But they also put out some pretty good beat originals

as the person that made the statement about the low quality of german 1960s "garage", i say thank you for enlightening me.

most of the tracks i knew, ans some are really good (e.g Loosers, Vanguards, Petards), some are ok, some are bad.

Still, we're talking about a country that had up to 60 million inhabitants in the later 60s and a the second or third highest gross national product, PLUS was full of US military bringing US music with them. my verdict (as a german): big let down.

historically, of course there are many ways of interpreting the lack of ballsy and high quality, original garage music: the nazis had lost the war but were still very active when the "new" german state was built. and of course they brought their ideology and virtues and beliefs. and i guess they do mirror in the output in the then current groups.

No intention of starting useless discussions. i'm just a US garage guy.
