Picked up a very cheap copy of Glass Managerie - End of the line / Troubled Mind on Revolvo. Don't know how well known it is , but I'd never seen one before. I'm after any info on this release/band (again). I'm sure the 45 isn't to everyones taste, but "End of the line" has kind of got under my skin a bit. Not the best of recordings by a long shot, but I can't hear any guitars on this track, just drums, bass, and possibly a couple of keyboards. There is guitar on the flip side, which makes me wonder if it was just missed off the final mix, or maybe it was intentional that there was none. Definitely leaning to the more psych end of things. Anyone else rate (or even dislike) this?

Always wanted to hear this 45.
Can you post clips?

Anything written or stamped in the deadwax area?

The group was from somewhere in California
My ex GF knew of someone who was in the group via a co-worker or friend.
i remember her telling me about a '60s group the Glass Managerie and according to her the person said they made a 45 but couldn't recall specific details. Never got any more info after that.

I'll definitely try Mike. First time having a go at this, so it may take some time, but it will happen.
$4 by the way! $14.50 postage:mad:
RV-208-A, RV=208-B and a very small capital H on both sides

Any relation to the Glass Menagerie who do "Baby"? That one's in my database without any label or state information, nor can I remember where I heard it, but I know it's good from the rating I assigned it.

Just found some info on the band. The drummer was Michael Shrieve, went on to Santana. Brian Godula played bass and joined Together a SF band. Other members were Bob Quoivect gtr and Dave Wilke gtr. Active from '67 to '68. This info was gleaned from Fuzz Acid & Flowers!! I had looked in there already, but they are listed under
Glass MEnagerie. He also lists the label as Revolve. Hmmmm!
No organ player in the listed line-up. Also Songwriter credits on both sides of the 45 are D.Hardy.
All a bit confusing.
Also found this on a Grateful Dead Family site, from Brian Godula basically referring to the info above

This is pretty much correct information although I believe that there was another group in the US called "Glass Menagerie" during that same time period who had more success than we did. Our group never performed outside of the SF bay area peninsula. We did perform as an opening act for some of the great up and coming groups of the day including "The Quick Silver Messenger Service" "The Grateful Dead", "Jefferson Airplane" and others. We did a demo recording at Coast Recording studios in SF but I do not recall the recording ever being distributed so it is very possible that the 45 the you make reference to is from the other "Glass Menagerie", I just can't remember.
Brian Godula

The SF group is not the one that made the Revolvo single.
Glass Menagerie / Managerie was a common band name.
The Revolvo label group is more than likely from southern California.

As was writing my previous post, it was making less and less sense. Surely Santana fans would have been all over that 45 if indeed it was the group that included Michael Shrieve. The songwriter not appearing to be in the group. The main instrument on the a side being organ, yet no organ player in VJ's line up.
My apologies for not following my gut instinct.
Hopefully some reliable info will come to light.

Wow, better than I expected.
A solid 6, would be a 7 if the middle organ break didn't stray into "Light My Fire" extended jamming.
I'm probably in the minority on G45, but I dig hearing 45s by groups who tried to be a junior league 1966-1967 era Doors.
Thanks muchly!

Congratulations on your find Alexander. I think it's very good but not amazing. Right now it appears to be the only known copy which is always an interesting aspect. I give it 5.

Thanks for the encouraging comments guys. Must admit it is growing on me. I'm not averse to a bit of extended noodling now and again, so it will keep on getting played in these parts.
Junior League Doors. I'll go with that.
Glad it was of some interest anyway.
The seller was from Cedar Falls Iowa by the way.

No worries Greenfuzz. Don't get too excited though. I wouldn't call it a 2 sider by any stretch of the imagination.
When I get a chance I'll load it up.

Great mood to the song, love the tambourine, vocals. It does run a little too long but I like almost everything about it. Could that be a guitar making those bending note sounds at the fade?

I give it a 7.

The more I listen to it, the more I'm convinced there is a bit of guitar in there C K, trying to surface through the wash of organs. It is what it is (and I like it how it is), but I would have loved to have heard a bit of wild fuzz spiralling up to break up the organs a bit.
A picture of a copy is on the 45cat site, uploaded by a contributor called Shoestring.

Here's the flip.
The amount of fuzz getting played in our house seems to have infected my poor old cat, hence the fuzzy moggy pic.

Thank you. Certainly nothing I'll ever listen to again...but my curiosity is satisfied.

"Glass Menagerie" - Baby - here is a page from Chris' website - http://www.garagehangover.com/tag/lyte-brigade/

I have a knackered copy I found in the north of West Virginia. Baby is a cover of the Led Zepplin song. I think I uploaded it here for a "unheard of challenge" a year or so a go.
