Happy Snaps

Does anyone have a list of 45s released but nobody has ever located a copy? I know 2 for sure...the BOBBIES & THE SONS OF SOUND on Ikon.

Related to the 'one known copy' discussions above - I once had a STOCK copy of Third Bardo on Roulette, which
is not known to exist, according to Barry W's Garage Records Reference Guide. I don't remember where my copy
ended up, traded somewhere in the world, decades back. Has anyone here ever seen another copy ?

There are 2 Just Too Much 45s, the other one is G+, not sure who has it now.

If it's the copy shakesomeaction supposedly had, it could not be produced when I asked for a transfer for the BFTG9 reissue. He said he made a transfer for me, but sent it to Austria instead of Australia. He never re-sent it despite my many requests. He was unable to make a label scan because he didn't have access to a scanner, even though he was head of music at the BBC. He was also unable to tell me the title of the flipside. Maybe he confused it with some other 45.

For this reason I would need to see a scan (or to be assured by MTM that he has personally seen the 45 or a scan), before I believe that the second copy actually exists.

Tony the Tiger had a beater copy of Just Too Much, or one of his collector pals, found at a record show. I never saw it when I visited the California garage collector sect. It ended up going to a collector in the UK, not shakesomeaction, though. It was posted in a list of acquisitions this collector had in his collection. I remember seeing this from the old garage hideout forum. At the time I only knew of the top condition copy sold by David Shutt in the early 1980s.

I just talked to Alec P and he emailed me this corrected info on how he got the Denise dub. (my memory sucks)

---When Alec was putting together the Ace Of Cups package for Big Beat, he wanted to add the Denise 45. This was before anybody knew of the first, yellow label, pressing. Denise didn't have a copy but a certain zealous NorCal collector (Crocker) was known to possess it (he had taped it on cassette for Greg Shaw, which is how the red label version ended up on Girls in The Garage). There was a bit of subterfuge to get a dub. Diane (Ace Of Cups drummer) happened to live near said the collector at the time, and so Denise called him and asked if she could get a copy for personal use. Diane went with her husband, who is a sound engineer and thoughtfully brought along a DAT machine, and so the dub turned out better than expected. Alec also had Diane jot down the deadwax info too, which confirms that the red label is a later pressing to the yellow. And let’s face it, it’s the far better version - Denise had re-recorded her vocal and the whole mix is clearer and more powerful.

I forgot Alec talked to D and C (Donig & Cohn) twenty years ago. He got some good stuff from them, but neither of them had any copies of Purple Virus. Cohn was the owner of Action records.

The Black Vs Blue challenge

Here are some of the best (and a few fillers) of all the USA '60 garage bands with names starting with "Black" and "Blue". Your mission, should you decide to accept it, is to listen on youtube to all the 45s shown (if you don't know them already), and then give your opinion which is better --- Black or Blue ?? I have already made up my mind...
I did not include the many additional 45s that start with "Blues", as they are a different batch. "Twice Before The Ministry" (or Minister) is by Blue Mist.
