Hey kids! Collect The Whole Set!

As per Dave Baldwin's request, the complete Orlyn garage collection (minus Delcords recently discovered instrumental 45 "Wipeout", probably a minor item in the overall scheme).

I hope this supersize photo doesn't crash your browser, but it needed to be shown in one piece and readable.

Great googily moogily! Happy New Year to you, too.

The Dore (pronounced "Dorrie") label was founded 1n 1958 by Lew Bedell and Herb Newman and and was an offshoot of Era records (see earlier post in this topic). Associates of the label were A&M records honcho Herb Alpert, producer Lou Adler, and distributor George Jay (see his stamp on some of the labels). Dore's first hit was "To Know Him Is To Love Him" by the Teddy Bears (Phil Spector). Later they released records by Jan & Dean among many others. All in all, it was a label with deep industry roots, and it's quite amazing that some of the releases must have been pressed in micro quantities, because many of them are incredibly rare (Motion, Spencer's Van Dykes, South Hampton Story).

The photo shows almost all of the known or suspected garage style 45s produced by Dore in the mid '60s. Some are quite folky and some have a commercial pop sound, but all emit at least a touch of TBM. The Motion, Syndicate, and Spencer's Van Dykes are the pick of the crop.

Brisbane born, Sydney based Steve Kipner of Steve & The Board later wrote multi platinum hits such as "Let's Get Physical" by Olivia Newton John, and others for various classic rock stars. His killer garage LP however, probably sold all of 5 copies in the mid '60s, judging by its extreme rarity today.

The Power. Of "Children ask" fame. Though I still need the Showplace copy which plays with the line "Children ask if God is dead". Hit me with your multiple offerings of this!

Smashing head shots + handwritten bios. If any serious re-issue label ever contemplates including them in a various artists comp, dial me up! I will happily share.
