How Unknown Can You Go?

Cough, cough. May I ask for an adjustment? No way I meant to give OutsideLookinIn a "2" for his track number 2. Don't know what happened there, but that is the sort of sound I really like. I must have hit the wrong key and not noticed! A 6.5 fer shure. I understand this may not be taken into account, but any hoot...

I apologize that I haven't rated any songs. I was hoping to find the time to systematically listen and rate everything, but there's soooo much and I just can't do it. I really dig a lot of what I've heard so far and will try to give some feedback down the line.

Well, you contributed six songs which is much more than some of us, including me, could ever wish to contribute. Your third entry is one of my favourite tunes of the contest (numerically it's actually my top favourite). Would you mind to give some background information to that song? And... is there any possibility it might ever be released?

I wonder if there is realistic hope for a "Best of G45Central Challenge" (or whatever titled) comp... that would be :sunny:!

I'd like to see that happen too (CD or double LP). I guess we'd go with the top rated 28-30 songs (Frantic's aside as he's doing his own) I'm happy to help with vinyl transfers if anyone's confident enough to send their precious slabs to me, and I'm sure the Boss would also be only too happy to oblige. Is anyone a whiz with Adobe suite? - they could do the artwork.

Thanks for the correction Outside. Funny how it was my own score which got elevated...:sneaky:

The ratings are now officially closed and no more will be accepted from this point. Of course if there are any mistakes, please bring them to my attention and I will make the necessary corrections. It would be a good idea if everyone checked their own scores, and the calculations for their score. That will help catch any inadvertent errors I might make, such as raising my own score and lowering yours.

THE RESULTS ARE IN (PENDING APPEALS). WE HAVE A CLEAR WINNER.
CONGRATULATIONS TO FRANTIC WHO WINS THE 2014 G45 UNKNOWN CHALLENGE CUP AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, THE COVETED "PRIZE".

I was gonna cry foul but the winner would be the winner the way I assumed the results would be worked out, which would be for the best single song in the competition.

Well done, the winner:tiphat:, that was a very good batch of songs, also by my reading the top ranking song too.

..and thanks to all the players for dusting off these obscure tunes and sharing them.

I'm pretty proud of my 11th place position. :yup:.

Yes, congratulations goes out to Frantic. I'm taking it that since he is no 45 guy he will donate the proceedings to the coal miners in WV :twistedevil:

I "lol"led at that, Mr Segment, good job my coffee was swallowed.

Yes the mountain top removing "miners?" really do need the help. They have to keep up the payments on the Hummer and 4 ATV's.... oh and the 10 guns under the bed (just in case Pres. Obama comes a knocking to steal their weapons).

As for the Health issues the rest of the world endures to keep us in good 'ol American coal jobs.... I won't start.:flush:

Here's a quote from the first page of the competition (post #16)

After 7 days, the points are calculated based on the number of people who knew the song, and the musical quality rating (awarded by Professor Moptopmike taking the popular vote into account at his discretion). The points will be added to the total points scored so far by that member. After points for 6 posts by any member have been calculated, that member's score will be locked.

It didn't work out exactly that way, but it was always going to be the total score, not the best single song.

Holy cow!!! On behalf of coal mines and miners the world over I proudly except this cool award. :tiphat: It actually helped me through tough times lately. My mother died recently and I've been kinda outta sorts physically, not bad, just feeling kinda weird with almost no energy, including today, where I slept most of the day. When the contest started I never expected to submit more than 2 or 3 songs or even come close to winning. But as time went on I saw how many cool songs were being given up so I decided to enter more songs that I had planned for upcoming cds (sorry about the gaps in the songs) I never did it for the 45 (Thanks Mark) I did it for sharing the songs. I've never made crap on any of my cds other than the PUBLIC NUISANCE cd. I've always released them as a labour of love and to to share killer Nor-Cal garage with all you guys. The contest started with some disaray but the one guy around that could pull this thing off, succeeded. I may have won but the real winner in all our eyes is Mark Taylor the king of the g45 world. Just think without all his hard work, 100 cool unknown songs may have taken years to surface. And it was cool that he handed out some of the highest scores in the contest. And then to offer the pick of a pile of rare semi-expensive 45s was the icing on the cake. I can't think of anyone else who would have done that. Thank you Mark. And in true Joey D fashion (no filters whatsoever) I have a few things I need to say. While I'm truly thankful for you guys who took lots of your time to enter and rate songs, I'm a little miffed at the turnout. We have 100's or 1000's of members on the forum, yet only 10 to 15 members rated songs. A week ago when the contest ended there weren't that many ratings (including mine) and I thought for sure that a ton of ratings would come in in the last week. To my surprise they barely came. Of course I'm not mad but I am kinda miffed as to why some major players around here never voted. Anyway, on a lighter note I gotta thank the Libs around here who played it square by not giving me lower scores due to my Ronnie Reagan Avatar. Thanks guys. Anyway, I would love to see all you guys give a lot of thanks to Mark for running this cool forum, one of the best around.
Cheers m8s...Joey D (Frantic Records) :tiphat:

ps...I gotta thank Don Julio who I feel entered the best song, I WAS AMONG THEM. And GreenFuzz (Mike Dugo) who was in it til the end and who came up with a solid consistent group of tracks.

pss...Speaking of coal mines, I'll never forget my hillbilly Grandad who I met only once in the late 60's in Kentucky when I was around 12. The one hour I spent with him on his porch I couldn't help but notice that he was missing one arm. When I finally got the courage to ask him what happened to his arm he answered "I worked in coal mines in W.V. and it got blowed (sic) off" :crap:

Sorry to hear about your mother, Joey. I unfortunately never found the time to rate all the songs...but the clear winner obviously won so I'm happy it all worked out. Now release your upcoming CDs already!

Of course I'm not mad but I am kinda miffed as to why some major players around here never voted.
Professor Moptopmike wrote to me excusing himself from voting duties due to a heavy workload on his new TBM follow-up book.

I was also very sorry to hear about your mother, Joey. It's a harrowing experience to lose a close relative, especially a mother or father. I hope you're starting to feel better as time goes on.

I apologize for not voting (too much shit workwise). At any rate, congrats to the winnner (I'd love to know when you'll serve your gems on a silver or vinyl platter?) and thanks for all competitors for sharing their goodies with the comunity. I really hope there'll be a "Best of Unknownst" comp soon (I guess all 71 tracks are worth to be heard). In the meantime I'll put them on some very private cds....
