Insane Collection update

same scenes all over the world: grown men and women with wide, bloodshot eyes, in front of their computer screens, TBM in one hand, Barry's guide in the other, acting hysterically, leafing thru pages, checking ugly-things.com, popsike,... great and very very solid first list. with due respect to everybody here, i'm extremely glad that mark is handling this sale.

Me too.

Well I ended up going for one thing I can't really afford and I haven't heard anything yet so I guess I haven't been lucky, though my bank balance has.

Thanks for that Captain.
I'll try to improve the timetable for the January batch. I will split it into 2 lots, but I will give a set time for each lot 12 hours apart. That should help reduce the red-eye factor.

Well, here's hoping there are still a few things left; just sent in a request. A little more U.K. stuff that I had expected, but that's not a bad thing. If this is the tip of the iceberg, it looks like there will be an awful lot of good records finding new homes in the coming months!

Nothing on there for me either, but great records and very fair pricing. I concur with Señor Soundog!

I hope everyone went ok in the first auction. Marek told me today that everyone seemed to want the same few records. That doesn't sound too hopeful...

He also wants me to list all the records in one batch next time. Having multiple emails coming in from the same buyers is causing him some trouble.

I like that the prices were high enough to discourage people buying only to resell. Despite that, some prices were relative bargains, others closer to what I would consider the high end for that record. That's typical of any set sale list.

With so many great records hitting the market at one time, and people having only so much money, it's natural to wait on the stuff that's priced on the high side and available elsewhere. For example, the Reddlemen, a great record, is available at any time from one of our members for $200 in M- condition, so I doubt it's going to sell here for $225.

Perhaps what doesn't sell the first go round can be offered at a 20% discount the next time?

I hope the seller will be happy using this forum. eBay might bring him more on a few select items, but the 10% fee and the headaches offset the benefits.

It is actually easier for me to have more records in one posting as shipping from Australia to Texas can't be cheap (so I'd rather have em send a pile than a single 45 five different times over a few months). I mean, I ain't got cash anyway so as long as it is all going on the credit card, may as well spend in a lump!

Likewise the lagtime between sending an email on Sunday to find out on tuesday whether you got it or not might be hard. Having the 45's get [strike]striken[/strike] from the listing as the "first come" gets "first served" might lead to not getting 30 emails for the same 45 (and not enough for the others).

This is what transpired when Jorgen arranged his deal to act as a record pimp for the dispersion of the Hans Kesteloo 45 collection.

Hans originally wanted to sell the entire collection for 50K. I was sent a list (something like 80 one sided typed pages) of his entire 45 collection in 1992. i recall Bill N. asking me if I wanted to "go half" and buy the whole thing. Back then, 50K seemed a stretch. no internet, not as much competition, etc. Plus, Hans' grading could be better, or worse than advertised. A few of the choice gems started to depart; $500 for any 45 you desired on his list. I was stiffed on my top choices, but did get a M- Murphy & The mob, Fly By Nites, and one other disc. Hans then decided to stop allowing cherry picking of the rare 45s since he still wanted to unload everything at once.

A few years later Jorgen somehow managed to convince Hans to let him auction the rare 45s and set sale the rest. Jorgen's auctions at first listed 20-25 monsters at once. We had to decide what ones to go after. i maybe won only 1 disc in the bunch. Plus, his set sales /prices were lists of underpriced records, which allowed a few dealers to buy everything in one shot (Jorgen stated 5 45s of your choice at 60 SEK or some price).

He made a huge mistake by not parsing out the rarities over time. And underselling the lesser / midrange 45s fr too cheap.
