Insane Collection update

That's why I use my own credit card's exchange rate (that is a selectable option with PayPal). Overseas bank transfers involve relatively large fixed fees: at least $30 from Australia, and often about the same from the recipient's bank.

yes, a lot of people are not aware that when you send an overseas transfer via a bank, there is a fee taken by your bank which they tell you about. Then, if your bank does not have a direct agreement with the recipient bank, the money will go via an intermediary bank. The intermediary bank takes another fee without notification before passing the money on to the recipient, and the recipient ends up with $25 or $30 less than expected. Bank transfers are not always the best way to go.

Postage seems really high to me. I've sent 45s overseas & packed well they can go letter rate which is approx $7.40 untracked or $21 with tracking. I've sent up to 2 or 3 45s without the rate going up. If someone was overpacking they might go parcel rate but that seems pointless - as we know a well packed 45 does not have to be bulky. Paypal take a commission from postage these days but that would only add about 5% to make it neutral for the seller. Those are AUD costs - the Aussie dollar is pretty weak against the USD at the moment so $7.40 AUD = $6.10 USD.

Hopefully he can be talked into accepting banktransfers . $ 300 is the line there it stops making sense for me to use Paypal . First I'll have to pay a 3.6% fee to send via the friend option , then they use a crooked exchange rate from Euro to USD . The result is over 7% per transaction .
You have a very efficient bank transfer system in Europe where you can transfer money to people in other countries for low, or no fees. Nothing like that in Australia for overseas bank transfer - it's like the dinosaur age. That's why companies like paypal do so well - at least they are efficient.

The fixed fee from my bank is about 20 $ and they are using the exact exchange rate . Of course that only works if recipient's bank doesn't ask a fee as well .

One solution, start everything high, top of the market prices, and the next day what's left is 10% off. The next day another 10% off, etc until its sold. In a matter of days everything will sell and the prices met should satisfy both seller and buyer. It will also slow down the rush.

I spoke to Marek yesterday. He told me what he's going to do.
First off, about 65 percent of the first list is sold so far. The rest will be put up in the Set Sale Supermarket for the general public. What does not sell there will go up on eBay for auction with a $10 minimum bid.

If too many payments come through with the Friends and Family gift option, Paypal will shut him down. :flush: This option gets major abuse and they are monitoring it. Be careful.

I don't understand why Paypal would care? If you choose "Friends and Family", then you (sender) pay the fees. If you don't choose "Friends And Family", then the dealer (recipient) pays the fees. Either way, Paypal gets their fees.

Mark, do you know if all winners have been notified by now? I got an e-mail stating that I didn't get anything from the 1st batch. However, I did not get an e-mail regarding my requests from the 2nd batch.

Not so. If pulling from a paypal balance or bank account (not a credit card) there is no fee to send money to friends and family. Well, in this case there is a 1% fee on the international transfer, but not the usual 2.9% or 3.9%.

I don't know. I will see if I can find out, but I don't want to overload Marek with requests. I get the distinct feeling that the avalanche of requests has got him slightly rattled. If everyone is patient for a couple of days, it will all work out.

wrong...well half wrong. If the person sending the money has money in their paypal there is no fees for either party. At least in the U.S. not sure about over seas.

They still charge you a fee for international gifting monies from the USA. I had a balance in my paypal account as well, but I was still charged a fee

As far as postage costs - I do not want something sent on the cheap coming from overseas. Those mailer boxes used in Europe are so wafer thin and crappy to begin with. I want at least 4 cardboard squares protecting an irreplaceable 45. To send something first class international from the USA the cheapest rate packed well costs $12.75 to Europe, $14.85 to the far east and Australia.

Like I said "In the U.S. there is no fee" not sure about overseas, I think it varies by country.

i believe that the paypal fees payment as gift depends too of the amount of money you pay, i bought one for 150$, pay as a gift and i dont have fees, but other time that i paid 300$ the fees was 3$, a 1%.

And talking about this set sale, this works like Erik L. set sale list. first come, first serve, you pay 4,5% if you buy by paypal or gift option. If the prices of the records are in my budget i gonna buy records to Marek, nobody put a gun in my head to buy a record, so...... come on mates, will happy, and if not, you can go to the inflate prices of facebook groups. Merry Christmas for everybody.

Like $390 for The Malibu's "Cry" when the guy probably got it from the same source many of us did last year at a very very decent price?

With Australia Post if the item is under 500 grams and not thicker than 2cm it can go letter rate up to a certain width and length. 45s are well within that. I've sent many 45s with card both sides and then put in a corrugated cardboard mailer and they easily fit within the letter rate guidelines. Australia Post rates have gone up but nowhere near as much as the crazy USA increase of a year or so back.

he sold it for 200 which is still more than the fair rate it was offered here, but half of the initial rate.

Yes, you're right, but then again I'd like to see how many of the insane collection 45s will end up being put up for sale on said facebook groups & fetching twice as much as the price paid on this here forum.
