Kim Fowley RIP

It upsets me that these fuckers never get brought to justice and the extent of their abuse doesn't come out til after they shuffle off this mortal coil.

I'm a pretty lefty, liberal guy but I'd happily see a real nasty punishment inflicted on this type of monster.

Fowley to me was an interesting curio rather than a talent in his own right. Like Saville, he seems to have been able to hide in plain sight too. Horribly sad that they both got away with it.

I think that's the one from Back Door Man. It was cover featured as "Kim Fowley's Dream Girl Contest! Win A Trip To Hawaii!" It might say something that it got no responses except probably the readership would have been over 95% guys anyway. Wasn't Muddy Waters the original Back Door Man? He had a thing for really young girls so I guess the magazine was well named.

There had been a huge outpouring of Fowley books, lps and cds the last few years before Fowley's death, maybe that got to Jackie too which would be understandable.

Kim's songwriting was similar to, though better, than Bruce Springsteen's. Pervert: Yes...Curio: No.

I recall a documentary years back that featured Cherie Currie describing such a scene and outright calling Fowley a pedophile. He was obviously a sleaze and admitted it in interviews and his own writings. He was lucky to have gotten away with it, like Jimmy Savile. Currie somehow was able to overlook this side and took care of Fowley in his last days.

I read Ian Whitcomb's autobiography when I was in high school - it was one of the few interesting music books available to me, and he recounts his disgust at seeing an obese Herman's Hermits roadie getting sloppy thirds or fourths with a teenybopper who had been persuaded to come back to the motel.

Another book about the LA scene discussed the endless supply of neglected teens exploited in all sorts of ways in the rock world of the '60s and 70s. An age-old problem.

Seems like there was a Byrds (?) scenario recounted in Whitcomb's book that was not
dissimilar to the 'Jackie Fuchs' affair. Don't have it anymore so I can't confirm.

A friend sent this link to me today. I'm not on social media, but I can imagine the man's defenders will dismiss or ignore the claims of the woman (Jackie Fuchs, aka Jackie Fox) who as as the bass player for The Runaways was drugged and raped by Fowley in front of his "followers" after a New Years Eve gig, in a dumpy motel, forever traumatizing the victim. And, before you make a judgement, I can say this - if you have never met someone who shamefully admitted to being traumatized as an under-age kid - or even as an adult, well, you cannot understand how one's life is forever altered.

Jackie had just turned 16. Fowley's age was around 35-36.

I'm sure I'm in the minority - I never liked Fowley as a human being; he was a manipulative, philandering creep, a sexual pedophile who was more full of shit than farmland fertilized with cow manure. A pompous ass who easily mesmerized other people with his tales of outrageous behavior - people, including friends of mine who still can't see thru the fog Fowley vented. He was no different than Huey Meaux or other men who had control and influence in the entertainment industry and used it to satisfy their own perversions under threats and blackmail.

People vilify guys lie Ted Nugent, who is outspoken in his political beliefs yet respect total crud-puds like Fowley, who took advantage of scores of females. The white Bill Cosby.
