Well, it’s been one year since I first listed the Knight Raiders 45 RPM vinyl record for sale on G45Central Forums. The record was the result of a project intended to introduce the Knight Raiders to the world and to make a vinyl record of the two original 1967 songs. In the words of Bosshoss, the objective of the project was to ensure the Knight Raiders songs are immortal and take their rightful place in ‘60s rock n roll history. WOW! HOW COOL IS THAT! Based on the world-wide response to the record – MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!

So now, I want to take a moment to thank all of you for your support and encouragement to tell the story of the Knight Raiders. I would also like to thank all the many members and guest who purchased the record – either directly from me or on eBay. But most of all, I would like to give a special thanks to Mike the Raven for getting the whole thing started when he posted about a mystery acetate he came across while researching for a article about garage bands (which is how I discovered G45 Central); Leonard Schwab, former record label owner and music promoter, who kindly allowed us to use his pristine acetate to digitize the two songs (now a part of the Bosshoss’ vintage library); and Mark Taylor who played a crucial role in the making of the vinyl record with his supernatural audio skills, designing the record cover, and supporting me throughout the project. I could not have done without your support.

You're very welcome Steve! Like i said, before, being part of this project is nothing less than a dream come true. I just turned 50 (gah!?), and most of those 50 years have been propelled by a genuine love for crazy loud music from the Vietnam era. So your reminder of this great project is one of the best birthday presents i've recieved this year :-)

And sorry we didn't cross paths earlier in the holiday season, hectic family plans made it impossible for me to swing by NOVA for a visit, but in the spring i'm probly heading down to Dig! Records to check on consignments of the Towson-Glen Arm Freakouts comps i left down there

I'll keep you posted on that as the spring gets closer

A few weeks ago, while as I was doing an internet search for my old band mates, something I do periodically, I came across some sad news – Jim Fetrow, the original lead singer for the Knight Raiders, passed away on September 19, 2018, after a 2 1/2-year battle with Glioblastoma brain cancer. He was 69 years old. Jim was a hunter, wood craftsman and, of course, a music enthusiast. He was also known worldwide for his expertise in the sport of Traditional Archery.

Even though I only saw Jim a few times after the band broke up in 1968, I have fond memories of him, especially the cold, wintry day in February 1967 when we went to Edgewood Studios in Washington, D.C., to record two original songs. I’ve always considered Jim a friend and will miss him very much. Rest in Peace, Jim.

Although I did not personally know him, I am sorry to read the news and your loss. I am glad that Jim leaves you with good memories.

And The Beat Goes On...

After years and years of searching, I finally found another member of the original Knight Raiders - Garry Phillips, organist and backup singer. Apparently, after seeing my comment on Jim Fetrow's (KR Lead Singer) obituary page, Gary started searching for me and found the Knight Raiders record on Discogs. So, when I saw that someone by that name purchased a record, I contacted him to verify if it was the same Gary - IT WAS! (You may remember from my stories that Gary left the band to peruse a career in the ministry, along with Jim who left to become a cop, sheriff, or something like that.)

Anyway, I can't express how good it is to finally be in contact with a former band mate after more than 55 years. We chatted on the phone for over an hour, sharing stories of our time in the band and what's been happening in our lives since. He sent me a copy of the original Edgewood Recording Studio bill from Feb. 22, 1967, where we recorded the two original songs - Hang it Up and Love Without Words. (Bill attached below.) Check out the price of the session! He also had several pictures of the band which I will share in another post. I've attached a few below.

I hope you get a kick out of seeing the bill and photos. And by the way, all the outfits in the pictures were made by our manager - Gary and Jeff's mom! They are great, don't you think?
