Little Herman Bean (of Houston I believe... Andy?) released "I'm Gonna Put the Hurt On You" on Ray Rush's Gina label in the summer of 1964. The song is a great R&B number and comes from the pen of a Lorenzo Daniels with publishing going to Mimosa Music. I know that record was later picked up by Arlen Records of Philly, PA. (in a switcheroo Arlen released a late doo wop record by the Companions which was then picked up by Gina). This is the same Gina label whose final release was the killer "I Will Not Be Lonely" by the Fanatics (see the G45 banner at the top of the page).
About a year later the Sparkles released "Daddy's Gonna Put the Hurt On You" on Hickory credited to Lucky Floyd and Bill Morris. Same song, slight lyric adjustment. Acuff-Rose Publishing.
Anyone know the actual history of this number? Does it go back before Little Herman? Ideas on how the Sparkles came into it?
