new comp out

just another JOHNNY-CUM-LATELY bootleg:confused: Who gave them the rights to include WILDWOOD??? WILLIAM PENN??? I'm releasing a 2 cd WILDWOOD set soon. No one contacted me or the band. WHATEVER!!!

"100% legal piece of vinyl"

What does that imply? That royalties are being paid to the Harry Fox Agency? Big deal:p

Some of the track listing information is either incorrect or missing.

I still don't understand why anyone would buy an inferior transfer vinyl comp these days. And for over $20 bucks!

agreed.

i've heard all of those tracks elsewhere. no point in wasting 20 bucks on a comp that's recycling songs from other releases. if this were featuring some newer stuff, maybe i'd throw the 20 bucks their way. but then again, i'd settle for the free download once someone uploads it to the net. i also agree with the issue on typo's n stuff. i've always hated that. the compiler really needs to revise his shit. or, maybe somebody needs to school him on the proper info.

I thought you paid someone like Harry Fox if you recorded someone's song; he collects for mechanicals too? Does that mean anyone could legally re-release anything, or just obscure things no corporation has any interest in?

This isn't like back in the '70s with Pebbles when nobody was doing good reissues and people would take anything, and I'm not even sure if the original Pebbles turned a profit. These things seem to be all about making money without doing the work.

People who produce compilations of recorded material which they do not own seem to think that by paying a royalty percentage (calculated from # of copies manufactured) to the Harry Fox agency that it automatically absolves them of any illegalities - it doesn't. The HFA reportedly keeps publishing compensation for orphan works (tunes not kept up to date by the original or current entity operating the publishing of the catalog. Whenever someone can prove a legit claim of ownership for an orphan work, then HFA will dole out the royalty compensation. However, that rarely occurs.

Isn't "fuzz buster" that total dickhead from Italy (not the cavemoron) who used to stalk me on eBay under various phoney names like "perling"? I used to know his real name but thankfully I've forgotten it.

This a comp of a set of comps..... This deluxe and regular editions is ridiculous, if there are only 200 make them all deluxe! plus the artwork it is horrible.. Sorry nothing personal but hasn't he seen bftg, scum of te earth, flashbacks etc.....

Looks like nothing more than a manufactured collectable. Let's see: You have your choice of a "regular edition" which is $21.50 or for $7.50 more, you get the "deluxe edition;" neither of these are any great shakes appearance wise. Factor in $24 for postage from Europe and you're looking at a grand total of $45.50 or $53. Forget it! Boycott this sucker!!

It's a never ending source of laughs for me, whenever I read "group info release data" from non-US folks who make these compilations. Seems anything with a heavy or psychedelic sound is automatically branded with a 1968 release date. Like everything influenced by the collegiate aged youth counter-culture movement and the heavier, third wave of British groups started and ended in that year!
The Wildwood track was released as a single in January, 1970.

Sorry Mikey...the WILDWOOD track came out in 1968. Their 2nd 45 came out in 1969. Mark Ross the keyboard player and spokesman for the band is 100% sure on this. So is Alec P.

Just out of curiosity.... Did group's ever send in copyright info after the fact?

Still wonder when the Wildwood CD will be released ..
Working on the booklet as I type this. Had a delay getting the new Indesign program, my old Quark Express wouldn't except new files created by Photoshop. Got the new versions and I'm learning how to use them. The only way to not lose money on these comps is to do all the work yourself. The next UGLY THINGS will have a story about the MAL-T'S/WILDWOOD written by Alec Palao. CD release will coincide with the article.

Dubious indeed.
But those 60s Garage Punk Classics EPs are great. The sound could be better though...
The Scott Bedford Four absolutely rule! And so do the Scoundrels! And so do the Shadows (from Nashville)! And the US Kids!
Besides looking forward to a new release on Frantic.

The Shadows as featured on the comp are/were not from Nashville. They did travel there to record the song "she's Like That" released on their 2nd single. the B side "Tell Me" was recycled from their local release but has no deep echo / reverb
