R.I.P. Charlie Watts dead at 80

That's sad news. I happen to be reading the epic "Rolling Stones Gear" book by ex-Chesterfield Kings members Andy Babiuk and Greg Prevost. It gives a full and very interesting history of the band, especially focusing on the gear of course. I also read the Beatles Gear book which was very good, but the Stones one is much better. Funny to read that the Stones wanted Charlie in the band in the very early days, but couldn't afford him. It's the first book on the Stones I've ever read. I've also been listening to all the Stones early stuff, recorded at the tiny Regent Sounds studios on a 2 track Revox tape machine. Really great sound.

Jim Dickinson discussing the Stones' Muscle Shoals sessions in the days before Altamont.

Dickinson: "When they got through a cut without a major mistake, Charlie Watts got up from his drums and by god it was over."

Always a class act, with some of the best 'fills' of any rock drummer ever.
Happy to have seen him a couple times...the '72 Stones tour was magic.
R.I.P. Charlie.

p.s. It's time for a "Little Boy Blue & The Blue Boys" reunion. Jagger, Richards
and Dick Taylor are all still with us at the moment.
