I just wish that people like Glen Campbell could have become famous for what they were most distinguished by, which of course was his great artistry on lead guitar. In retrospect, it seems strange that the general public could not accept a "guitar hero" prior to Hendrix, and even Hendrix himself had to be converted to a vocalist to break through. Like most people, I grew up thinking Glen Campbell was just another bland, milquetoast pop-cum-country singer a la Eddy Arnold or something. It was only when I got older I learned about his "other" side, his earlier records, and his vast contributions to countless rock and pop records via the L.A. Studios. I think rock/pop music more suited his talents than country, but the lines between genres are always blurred anyway.
