6.857

6.923

6.890 Musical Impact Factor.

But, Vinyl 01 would surely disagree since 6.923 is closer to 7.000, therefore it must be tabulated as 7.000

A couple of "10's" can really make a difference... Side one on offer here makes it into the top ranks; overall this rates just a fraction behind the (to my mind) superior PDW.

Acid Dreams #1 - LP

Psychedelic Unknowns - LP

Side 1
1 The Calico Wall - I'm A Living Sickness (Minneapolis, MN, U.S.A.) 9
2 The Sound Sandwich - Apothecary Dream (Los Angeles, CA, U.S.A.) 6
3 The Daybreakers - Psychedelic Siren (Muscatine, IA, U.S.A.) 6
4 The Split Ends - Rich With Nothin' (Tampa, FL, U.S.A.) 9
5 The Nervous Breakdowns - I Dig Your Mind (Los Angeles, CA, U.S.A.) 8
6 The Evil I - Love Conquers All (Harrisburg, PA, U.S.A.) 6
7 The Cosmic Rock Show - Rising Sun (Duluth, MN, U.S.A.) 3
8 Thee Sixpence - My Flash On You (Glendale, CA, U.S.A.) 7
9 The Iron Gate - Feelin' Bad (Philadelphia, PA, U.S.A.) 7
10 Ides - Psychedelic Ride (Milford, DE, U.S.A.) 7

68/10 = 6.8

Side 2
1 The Starfires - I Never Loved Her (Long Beach, CA, U.S.A.) 10
2 The Kings Ransom - Shame (Allentown, PA, U.S.A.) 7
3 The Caretakers Of Deception - X + Y = 13 (Los Angeles, CA, U.S.A.) 7
4 The Jury - Who Dat? (Winnipeg, Canada)
5 First Crew To The Moon - Spend Your Life (Brooklyn, NY, U.S.A.) 7
6 We The People - In The Past (Orlando, FL, U.S.A.) 8
7 The Painted Ship - Frustration (Richmond, Canada)
8 The Squires - Going All The Way (Bristol, CT, U.S.A.) 10
9 The Front Line - Got Love (San Rafael, CA, U.S.A.) 7
10 The Nobles - Something Else (Wilmington, DE, U.S.A.) 8

64/8 = 8

132/18 = 7.333

If not for the faux pas of including Cosmic Rock Show this long time fave, (aside from the atrocious sound quality, that is) would have accrued this very respectable tally: 129/17 = 7.588235294117647

And as a final note if the two Canadian tracks were to be factored in the score could conceivably jump a bit higher. I rate the Jury a 9 & The Painted Ship an 8. This would result in a score of 149/20 = 7.45. Strip out the Cosmics & whadda ya know, 146/19 = 7.68. But enough revisionism. 7.333 still places PU firmly in the top ten of comps rated to date.

Open Up Yer Door #1 - LP

Side 1
1 Richard & The Young Lions - Open Up Your Door (Newark, NJ, U.S.A.) 10

7 The Tulu Babies - Hurtin' Kind (Cleveland, OH, U.S.A.) 7
8 The Cardinals - Tomato Juice (Chicago, IL, U.S.A.) * 4

54/8 = 6.75

Side 2
1 The Electras - Action Woman (Ely, MN, U.S.A.) 9
2 Gregory Dee & The Avanties - Because Of You (Minneapolis, MN, U.S.A.) 6
3 The Stains - Now And Then (New Haven, CT, U.S.A.) 7
4 J.J. Lancaster - So Unkind (Chicago, IL, U.S.A.) 6
5 The Us Four - The Alligator (Louisville, KY, U.S.A.) 6
6 The Painted Ship - Little White Lies (Richmond, Canada)
7 The Heathens - Problems (Schenectady, NY, U.S.A.) 8
8 The Young Tyrants - I Try (Rochester, NY, U.S.A.) 8

50/7 = 7.14285

104/15 = 6.9333

Strip out the idiotic Cardinals track, which I invariable did when spinning this back in the day, and the score tallies 7.142.

Even playing by the rules this rates highly, with a handful of MONSTERS on offer, paired with an eclectic, but mostly high quality back bench.

Back From The Grave Vol. 3 Musical Impact Factor = 7,800

Crypt Records makes a mighty return with the gargantuan cluster of garage punkiness. It gets shot down by a couple of not-that-high-rated tunes (Willie the Wild One get a sixer) but never the less now shares the numero 3 slot with the captivating second part of the Pebbles Series.
Order is (somewhat) restored.

MTM: I couldn't find Jerry & the Others in TBM. Soybomb tells me they are from Ohio? It it my dyslexia again or is it the Corona?

Keep 'em coming, Lee, soundog and especially Sylvain! I have a pretty big collection of '60s comps, but I miss a lot of those old U.S. comps. Seeing big, nice pics of the ones I don't have is very exciting, but also a little depressing... I console myself by saying to myself that eventually a copy will turn up at a price I can afford. Which has actually happened quite often lately.

Here's a curiousity, perhaps Sylvain knows something about this? This was acquired from Midnight Records NYC by a friend of mine. He sold / gave / traded (?) it to me in the late eighties. As the date is years post the original Acid Dreams my best guess is that JD was looking to ride the coattails of the orig. The track listing is totally squirrelly, which leads me to suspect that JD may in fact havebeen behind it. The sound quality is OK, nothing special. It may simply be a mish/mash of Flashback tracks paired with a few original 45's.

So who did the original Acid Dreams? HK?

The Acid Dreams story is crazy indeed, Sylvain must have spent 1000 hours trying to piece that one together. I'm not sure if you have to bother with pseudonyms nowadays, it was 30+ years ago. I'll let Professor Comp lay it all out, and will only say that I think it's a monster comp, one of the best ever. Man, only a "5" for Music Machine "You'll Love Me Again"? It's their best goddamn 45. And only a "5" for the Vejtables raga fuzz killer? Whew.

Lee,

Check the score on Psychedelic Unknowns, it appears to have been shortchanged.

Jerry & The Others was an LP cut taken from The sound of WONE - all different groups on the comp issued in 66.
