I recently won The Statesmen's "Roo-Buh-Doo-Buh-Doo" 45 on eBay, a song I've loved for a long time. Naturally, I wanted to see what these maniacs looked like, but I could only find one picture. I understand that there was also a band from down under using the same name, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is the American band or not.

Very cool, thanks! The pic at The Red Carpet looks something like I imagined these guys looked. But Roo-Doo-Buh-Doo and the flip, Teen Theme are the only tunes I've heard by these guys. I wonder what the rest of their repertoire sounded like.

i have a live cdr of the statesmen , its mostly nw standard. they do the kinks -gotta move . there was also a statesmen from ohio

from a friend. no that song ain't on the cdr . so what label is that on ? they were from either tacoma or olympia wa

It's on Raynard. I got a white label DJ copy. There's also a standard issue lemon-lime label.

I heard they were from Michigan, so the PNW perspective is a new twist for me. Puts them in an interesting new light.

Gary Myers has a little history of the group in his book "On that Wisconsin beat". Band member Jay Lerner was from Milwaukee. The Statesmen was formed while he was attending Michigan State University. The group played together 1961-1964. I hope this help you. Sorry there is no photo of the group in the book.
