Surprise, surprise - idle chatter about TBM

That 45 was on my large list of tunes that I needed to hear / audition, but never got a copy of them. I'll include these provided they fall in the '64 or thereabouts time frame.

Could you send your list? Maybe I have some that I could send.

Are you considering the Spectrum on Somethin' Groovy, the South 40 on Metrobeat, or the Reign on South Park?

btw I have the other sides of the Savage Resurrection on Mercury and the Sounds of Dawn on Dot. Do you need sound files of those?

Sounds of Dawn - I have the 45, I'll check but I didn't think "Stephanie Says" makes it...
Reign - don't have anything
Spectrum - already listed, the group spelling is Specktrum.

The others I do have (including Atlantics) on 45s or tapes and discs. The likely reason for no displayed ratings is that these tunes did not receive enough votes to arrive at a consensus. Some sessions, like those for the letter "S" were very time consuming, and some voters just did not have enough time to set aside to complete the entire ballot, so they sent in what they could. Just one of the frequent problems I encountered trying to get as many songs rated as possible in the book.

Do you want the Reign sides? Thanks on the Specktrum as I did misspell it and now found it listed. I just picked 's' by random checking what I have and what you indicated w/a target that you might need.

I have loved this book myself... I feel that a few of the folk-rockers and merseybeat styled 45s are low graded for their genius.

but I guess it is tastes.

The only thing i'd have liked to possibly see is the G45 rarities listed maybe 500 - 1 of the rarest records - just so that when I'm scanning records on ebay, I know if I am ever gonna stand a chance of winning something.

the label scans are awesome, the pic sleeves blow my mind, happy to say I own at least 6 of the pic sleeves.

the historical info rocks.

one thing I find killer is the description of the 45s - this makes buying unknown records to me, easier to nail down to my own tastes.

TBM is safe at my home.... I dig it.

Paul,

A G45 rare list is something that must be fluid, and updated on at least a semi-regular basis to be considered a reliable, valid reference source. A book's format is too permanent to accurately reflect demand, rarity and value.

We'll update the G45 rare listings this fall. I've started to sort thru and will be sending Mark some of my early reconfiguring results to see if he agrees or has other suggestions. He is the Boss:cool:

One thing I would like to see in addition to the regular collector geared list, say, a top 200 or so to start, and also a top 45 list of what some of us like to tag / call "fetish buys" or "in-demanders" - 45s avidly collected by the other 60's collector buyer sect which is reflected by the weekenders / DJ social scene, rather than those of us who are old school in collecting tastes (those who could care less if a 45 is a dancefloor filler). You'll see garage/psych 45s which are nabbing high prices, like Raven on Rust, or New Life on Amaret, for example. 45s which are not rare by any means, but are currently hot commodities whenever items are placed for sale.

EG.... The Squires - GOING ALL THE WAY .... used to be 40 bucks about 3 years ago, now sells around for 150 bucks a time.

With all due respect Paul, that is complete bollocks. Squires haven´t been a $40 record for the last two decades. At least. And certainly not 3 years ago unless we are either talking a complete steal or a G condition copy.

As a matter of fact, the world wide web has contributed to making this disc less scarce than it was originally believed to be due to some Pebbles blather or thereabouts

I can honestly say I saw a couple of decent copies go on Craig Morer's site for around 40 bucks.

Everyone I know who has a copy, who got it 3 years ago and more, all got VG to M copies (stock and promo) for under 50 bucks.

this isn't a lie... I swear.... my own desires for said record have been doomed, cos i've never seen one sell for under 100 dollars... I've been really looking in the last two years myself, when my own 45 collecting has gone into overdrive.

Psych dealer Paul Major had a small stash of unplayed copies of The Squires circa 1990 that he was selling at $40 a pop.

By the time I decided I actually needed a copy of this in my own collection, it was 2005 and I paid $152.50 for the privilege on ebay. Cheap, this 45 is NOT.

There was a large find of the Squires, stock copies, about the time you mention (1990). Most all of them had some label quality issues that appeared as irregular holes in a under layer that was covered over - like painting over something that had areas of bare wood and paint. Several dealers had some copies. I also think that the record pressing was not of the best quality. The rumor was that they came from a source down south, the apochryphal 'abandoned barn' type place. I have a stock that came from a different pressing (and a promo).
The first copy I found of the Squires was at a Cleveland record show not long after I got the Pebbles LP (1981-ish). At the time it was a big deal. It was probably the first record I got on original 'in the wild' that I heard first on a comp and the superior sound quality blew me away.
