Surprise, surprise - idle chatter about TBM

Sorry about the Flower Power omission, tho I don't think all of their 45s are TBM-worthy. I don't have any of the 45s and I didn't receive dubs of the sides until it was too late to fit them in. I will include all of the 45s in the update, however.
At least two Flower Power members recorded as the Soule Surivors in '66-'67 (see their River label 45 entry in TBM; the Flower Power connection was not known at the time of finalization for that page)
What college were the Immigrants based out of in Kansas? That was an oversight not putting in the locale...

I have a possible sad omission to report. Scanning the top 1000 for yellow labels, I'm unable to spot the Night People on Tuggie (scored 7 on garage-o-meter, therefore should be included since #1000 scored 6)

No, Mark, upon investigation when George brought up this very omission several weeks ago, I double checked the Top 15,000 master list, and the Night People side tabulated as a 6 rating, yet not high enough to make it into the Top 1000. I've been sending out corrected books since the discovery of the errant rating, marking "Ain't Gonna Happen" as a 6 rating.

Just reading the TBM listings, including "It's Not Over Yet". Started thinking...If there were no ratings, it would be extremely frustrating. I'd be scanning all those unknown 45s, thinking "yeah, but are they any good...?". With the ratings, I have a pretty good idea. I think the ratings are an essential and excellent part of the book.

At the risk of repeating myself: let me 2nd my vote for a fully revised edition of TBM in due time (2yrs maybe).

A late-comers section such as "It's Not Over Yet" is unpractical in itself. But thinking about having to check a third place, "Beyond TBM", too, to look up an artist, just doesnt feel like the work of reference, TBM deserves to be. Even in this thread there's lots of missing data mentioned - I'm sure you'll receive much more over the coming months...

Yeah, the last Flower Power may be too deep into early Grand Funk zones for the book, though it is an intense fuzz ripper, and still non-comp I think. But to my ears at least two of their 45 need to be added, and may even garner decent ratings... Mt Olympus/Trivialities is a killer 2-side IMO.

Some years back I would have taken pride in knowing that the Immigrants attended Wesleyan University since no one else knew (or gave a shit) about this data, but now even the most arcane info is on the "internets". Hence:

I agree with this. Much of the painstaking work is already done, so porting over the existing discography and then combining/adding the "It's Not Over Yet" section and new discoveries shouldn't be too time consuming - although I understand it will completely affect the pagination, which seems to be the primary challenge in adding new info...

It would be nice, in theory, but an entire revised book is both impossible and impractical (from a cost, time and effort standpoint). The market will not be there in the future to support buying a revised edition anyway.

I already have a working budget and page count total in place for the supplement book. The 2nd book is going to be very limited, around 300 copies. There will not be anywhere near as many new additions as you find in the It's Not Over Yet chapter. It is only geared to people who want to see the entire song rating listings from top to bottom, along with the vote results. That, along with a cross reference vote result sorted by song title in alphabetical order is running over 200 pages

Totally right. I think it's hard for people to understand the time and effort involved in making what may seem to be simple changes. This whole book was something done at the end of the working day, and occasionally before the start of it. Pages were reworked countless times, descriptions finessed, ratings amended and added to, locales confirmed or updated. For a book that's about something which gives such joy, it was frequently a grind to do.

That aside, there will never be a definitive book and no one wants one really. Many among us want the opportunity to highlight something overlooked or omitted, and in doing so proudly display knowledge or taste. As far as I'm concerned it's just great how it is - an amazing achievement and fantastic resource - and no update is necessary until this print run gets low.

Yes, I have the 45 and the flip is an instrumental. Where do you want me to send it?
