The Beatles In Mono - vinyl box set

Did you order it from Amazon or a side seller on Amazon? If you ordered it from a side seller, the odds are pretty good that you will get a bootleg. If direct from Amazon you will be good to go.
A bootleg of a boxset? what?
who would go through such an effort?

I was talking about the cd box sets, both mono and stereo boxes have been heavily bootlegged.
Fascinating. I guess I just think of bootleggers wanting to do the minimum amount of set up (not duplicate a hardcover book and such), though I guess if there is money to be made people gonna get that paper.

There are sure a lot of high quality vinyl repro sets coming out these days and this could be the king of the lot! Gorgeous! I'll bet a lot of people here could still sleep at night if the Beatles had broken up right after the Strawberry Fields/Penny Lane single, or even before. :twistedevil:

P.S.: but I'd still have to have the Flying track from Magical Mystery Tour and It's All Too Much.

Got the box a month ago, mono Revolver getting played over and over since then... Thrills down the spine guaranteed.

A friend of mine bought the new "Help" mono mix, because it was the only album he didn't have in original mono. We compared it to my old mono copy and it definitely lacked some punch. Somebody else told me that in the new mixes they deliberately didn't boost the mids, as opposed to the old mixes, to achieve a more balanced sound. But actually, isn't the punch something that makes the old mono mixes so good?
I started buying all the mono originals after hearing "Rubber Soul" in mono. Since then I'm generally trying to get every record in mono, no matter what artist. "Revolver" and "Sgt.Pepper's" are rare examples of mid-sixties records of which I think the stereo mix is better than the mono. Geoff Emerick had an ingenious way to work with stereo. Some of the mono mixes of the White Album are superior though. Just my 2 cents.

That being said, the box set is surely well done and looks great. The booklet looks awesome, too. I only doubt that it serves as a replacement for the old mono records.

Having owned Revolver in the original US mono, the 70s UK stereo, the 70s US stereo, and CDs of the original UK mono and stereo, and the UK stereo remasters, plus the 80s US stereo, I was amazed to find that there were still things to be revealed in this new mono reissue.

"Your package has left seller facility and is in transit (Updated 6 day(s) ago)"
If they don't update the status for days at a time, how is this amazon tracking helping to track anything?

Arrived today. not in the protective packaging it left the distro in. Just used those BS bags of air in a recycled and now crushed cardboard box (with the white box set box suffering seam splits and corner dings). Ugh

:flush:

Ugh. That's a drag. I'm sorry to see records mashed like that.

We have adopted a no-Amazon policy in our house because we don't think anyone who works there is actually vested in the effective and safe delivery of the products...

That is so disappointing. Completely different to the way mine arrived from Amazon. Why don't they send all of them out the same way?

Shame on Amazon!

Doesn't look like you ordered the boxset from Amazon itself. Amazon Marketplace is not Amazon. You get what you pay for. Amazon is the best. Mine came in bullet proof packaging.

I didn't understand that particular difference, and I suspect a lot of others are unaware as well. I think Amazon should divorce themselves from that substandard service, or risk having their good name dragged in the mud.
They can't have it both ways, if they lend their name to promote a poor service, it will be tarnished.

Yeah, this came from a record store in Sacramento(Dimple). I was unclear that the amazon site works in various different ways depending on who you buy it from. Still on the fence if it is worth the hassle to just return it and try my luck again to get a nice clean box.

Some sellers are willing to operate on a lower profit margin than Amazon and some buyers shop only on price. Amazon was losing this business to other websites. That's when Amazon Marketplace was born. The lower margin sellers can sell through Amazon and Amazon gets a cut of the action. The downside is that Amazon's reputation gets ternished, as bosshoss pointed out.

I'm not sure if it works this way in other countries. On the USA Amazon site, the main entry for an item is usually from Amazon itself. The seller is clearly marked. In smaller print, there is a link to other sellers of the item both new and used. This is the Amazon Marketplace. Amazon collects the money & transmits it to the seller. The seller is responsible for shipping the item & processing any refund requests. There is a middle ground where items are marked "sold by Jones fulfilled by Amazon". For these, Amazon collects the money & ships the item. Jones is responsible for handling refunds. There are also items on the site that Amazon doesn't carry at all. The main entry is marked "sold by Smith."

I stick to Amazon itself (Amazon or Amazon LLC) except for commodity items like AA batteries.
