What are you listening to and what do you have to say about it?

Crappski. I was late to this. Regret not signing up back when. Have to resolve to unfortunate solutions

I just bought one from Nemo - $43 *including postage* which I think is ok and not too 'steep'. $28 + $15 postage which is about the same postage you have to pay from any ebay seller for an LP :)
He has 'a handful' of copies left

Yeah, just grabbed one also. Really don't want to miss out on this one. $28 is cheaper than a normal LP is in Denmark, and you can't blame the guy for the shipping costs. I just hope it goes through customs...

What, you didn't ask him to set a low value?!

;)

Yup, sure did. I don't really mind the 25% tax but the Danish postal service also has something called an "import fee" which is about $30 extra for anything outside the EU. It goes straight into their own pockets. I don't know if that also goes for the other Scandinavian countries though. But that fee really can make a record very expensive. Ridiculous.

Huh? Regardless of value? That's even crazier than in Norway. Here everything below 200 NOK (postage excluded) slips through.

Well, I think it's about 80 kr. here which is like $15. That's including shipping. So basically it is regardless of value because that equals the shipping for one LP.

OK, I came to my senses and ordered the Bachs LP directly from Time Lag. I found someone in Holland who will have it, but they were asking €32 (shipping not included) for it, so...

Apparently all 500 copies are now gone! And it's only been out for, what... 2 weeks? Crazy.

Just like the old days when new ltd stuff would sell out in a week. Can't say I've missed the feeling of panick while waiting for confirmation of my order. But now it's on it's way!

Strange decision to press 1000 copies of Heitkotter & only 500 of the Bachs. Would've thought the other way around had made more sense.

I've just listened to Justin Hayward's solo version of "London Is Behind Me". It's good, but I still like Ryan Guidry's version better. I have yet to hear Lonnie Donegan's.

Cecil McCartney - 'Om'
Obscure folk psych from 1968....laid back acoustic tunes....turn out the lights, burn some incense and let your troubles fade away.

Jim Sullivan - 'U.F.O'
1969 obscurity of pleasure....loner folk, psych tinged country.

Goldenrod - 'Goldenrod'
Tripped out sitar psych fest

Playing the Bachs reissue on Time Lag right now and I must say I'm happy with it! It looks great w/ thick sleeve and repro labels and the sound is clean and have warmth and presence - sounds very close to the cdr burn I have from an original. Great!
Also been playing the recent reissue of Clap - Have You Reached Yet (Sing Sing) and I think it's a great LP. Don't know why I never checked it out before... Snotty n Stonesey basement teen garage from '72. No stupid stoner/hardrock/hippie vibes - just a real cool almost proto punky vibe all through.
I played my whole Grateful Dead collection yesterday aswell. The 'Cream Puff War' and 'Dark Star' 45's, that is. Took me about 15 minutes, as I forced myself to play the flip sides aswell ;)

Mans, I'm hoping to find this Bachs release.

Also regards to The Grateful Dead don't write them off, check out their early stuff as The Warlocks - really VERY good.

Early Dead is good S**t, check this out from 1965 way ahead of it's time by at least two years.

I've been listening to....

The Syl Johnson boxet - so far very impressed, not keen on the 1st LP but everything after that is some of the best soul music I've heard in a long while, not phoney and just plain cool.

IGL FOLK-ROCK comp - been over listening this, probably listened to it at least 30 times in the last week

Kenny and The Kasuals comp cd-r really love their moody stuff like raindrops to teardrops

The Exchequers - Is there some girl 45

The Five Bucks - No use In Trying 45 (as I covered it on the weekend - love this record)

Folkal Point - s/t (1972) - really nice traditonal folk release with girl singer, it's been somewhat of an influence to me of late, what with autumn and winter around the corner.

I have kind of a hard time getting past the good timey vibes that permeates a lot of the Dead stuff... but I still kinda agree that the early stuff may be a bit underrated. BUt my absolute fave LP by a SF band is the first Country Joe & the Fish. It MUST be the mono mix though but I got that for ca $10 on ebay. Most 'psych fans' still haven't realized that 60's mono is preferrable to stereo, and usually rarer pressings aswell.
Another LP that's hot on my player at the moment is Alice Cooper - Pretties For You (Straight)
Has nothing in common with the later theatrics - it's pure freaky US fuzz psych with a healthy dose of Pretty Things SF Sorrow and Barret Floyd influence. But more damaged. Fave album of mine since many years!

Elevators BOXSET is AMAZING, let me just say, it looks, feels and SOUNDS great.

ONE PROBLEM though - the 'Contact' Session LP and the 'Live in CA' album have been misspressed, the labels have been put on the wrong records.... so they are the wrong way rounds, it's a shame, however the music is what counts and I guess, you can't fault them - even though, my OCD cannot hack the fact the labels are on the wrong records.

been diggin a lot the Crimson Shadows anthology LP
it was years I had not been spinning whatever "revival", but those recordings really passed the test of time (just as the Wylde Mammoths did)... Still and will remain one of the best garage bands from the 80s.
Cool liners as well (apart that it seems that part of them are missing in the final layout - see the section ending with "Music Machine" ), even if what really happened with Tracks on Wax remains a mystery. It would have been great to get the final truth about that. Too bad also that this is not the "complete recordings", but only a "best of". I mean, it's mentioned in the liners that some "lost" stuff was recently unburried by Mans, but none of this is featured on this LP ! Was is so bad it wasn't possible to include this here, or is it planned for another "reissue" later ?
Reminded me also how cool were the Backdoor Men. I know they turned, for most of them, into The Creeps, but I'm wondering if their fab 7'' is the only stuff they ever recorded.... or if there's still more waiting in the attic. IMHO, they were far better than the Creeps, would have love to hear more from them.
The Stomachmouths are mentioned in the liners as well... They're still considered as one of the best bands of the swedish 80s, but how painfull were their LPs... the first one is so badly (=80s) produced that it's just impossible to listen to this crap today. But I guess they were probably a killer band on stage...
Anyway, this CS LP is out now on Groovie Rds, and much recommended !
