Who in hell is this bunch?

Might be too poppy for some here, but I really like it. The intro sounds like 1910 Fruitgum Company territory.

Is there a way to download that from SoundCloud?

Yes, Greenfuzz it has a slight poppy feel but definitely more garage than pap. I'd not have said 1910 Fruitgum Company myself.

It really is starting to sound like one of this "mystery bands" other songs to me. With a good guitar break it might have been a moody minor key classic. Is that minor keys the organ is playing??

As for a download.... I probably will make it so but give me sometime to talk to the actual owner, if I can work out who owns this. It kind of a cryptically came to my ears via synchronicity / pure luck?

EDIT - Actually Greenfuzz as you are the first I'll PM you a link.

I wasn't actually guessing the 1910 Fruitgum Company, but to my ears the intro is similar to '1, 2, 3 Red Light'. I think MTM's guess is solid.

I received the download link. THANK YOU! Please allow me until Monday evening to download it. The more I listen, the more I dig it. Again...thank you.

Dang that Moptop Mike should be like a 45 detective or something.

Yes, it is Evil Encorporated / Evil Enc Group the song is called - For Me To Love You

I don't know much else.

I got a new p/t job working a coal camp company store museum.

As you can see a beacon of architectural beauty but full of dark folk lore and history.

So in my first weeks a balding smiling face appears up the stairs. The owner asks if I am knowledgeable enough to give this gentleman, Butch, a tour. He seemed harmless so I agreed. He was a local from Oak Hill and when I mentioned the Coal Barons last name - Collins, he said "Yeah, I went to the Collins High School in the 60's"

I said "Did you know of Evil Encorporated" he told me he did and that he lived next door to the guitarists brother. So Butch and I spoke of music and miners lamps and the spirits that are suppose to haunt this building. We shook hands and he promised he'll ask his neighbor if he had or knew of spare copies of Hey You / The Point Is. I said if he did to come back ask for the "Crazy Englishman."

Saturday was busy and I had almost finished another tour when I was told some people were here to see me. I went to the front and there was a smiling balding guy and a couple. I slowly remembered Butch, he introduced me to Mike Dunlap he had a CDR for me with 5 Evil Encorporated songs. He apologized for the skip in the first song - Hey You.

I talked about how highly rated Evil Enc. were in MTM's Teen Beat Mayhem.

He told me he had played guitar in an earlier version of the band - The Squires, the lead member - Doug Gent (drums, lead vocals) thought it was kind of clean cut and wanted to change it. Another member said "Do you want to be like EVIL then?"
"Yes EVIL INCORPORATED" said another.
"If we are Incorporated we'll have to pay municipal taxes and stuff" joked one.
"We'll be EVIL ENCORPORATED then."

Mike was a few years older than the others and he was drafted to Vietnam and his position was taken by his brother Frank.

Another tour arrived on the steps and I had to cut our chat short but we exchanged numbers so if anyone has questions I could pass them along.

It is a very cool song to me, those drum rolls into the key changes were the sound I thought of as Evil Enc like.

Full band:

Gary Burgess, rhythm guitar; Frank Dunlap, bass; Eddie Michaels, lead guitar; Doug Gent, drums, and Robert James, organ.

I'm not so sure about that, Mikael.

Gary Burgess was an early member (and in the photograph above) but was a few years older. Bob James was the replacement on organ.

I believe this was the line up for the recordings.

Doug Gent, drums, lead vocals
Frank Dunlap, bass;
Eddie Michaels, lead guitar
Robert James, organ

As seen here in this press clipping.

MTM also confirmed the band members on the 45's being "Just 4 Evil" members (I copyright this band name :twistedevil:)

Yes, and he was the rhythm guitarist. Robert James was already in the group on organ.

Mikael,

I'll ask Frank Dunlap's brother, hopefully, he'll ask Frank, so we can get the truth. They would have been extra good the night of a 5 piece Evil Enc..

Burgess was 2 years above the rest of the band and '67 was his last year in school.

I don't think Gary Burgess is playing on the recordings as the songs only credit - Gent, Michaels, Dunlap and James? It really sounds like a 4 piece tome??? I can't hear a rhythm guitar behind that fuzz lead?

Reliving old memories here. Doug and his brother Fred were friends of mine. Fred and I played in another band around that time. I'm pretty sure Gary was gone by the time that song was recorded, somewhere around '67. I can't remember Burgess and James being in the band at the same time. Too bad neither Doug or Fred are with us to let us know. I didn't know the others in the band very well and haven't kept up with any of them. I don't know what his wife did with all of the materials but I'm sure she sold the recording studio equipment of Doug's.

The first pic you have above was around '66 in the Collins High School gym, prior to James and the organ. It was also prior to the Vox equipment including Eddie's Vox Phantom guitar (what I think Eddie is holding in the second photo above).

You appear to have found their release of Hey You/The Point Is. Did you also find their other 45 with Baby It's You (Shirelles)/All I Really Wanna Do (Dylan)?
