Best finds/buys of 2011 - Year End Review

Mymes on Ikon
Nomads on Skoop
Federal Union acetate * via Joey D
Flash & Memphis Casuals
Spades on Ace

MYMES on Ikon....only known copy??? Even the band members never ever saw a copy. They had a fight with their manager and never got a copy. Thought to have all been destroyed!!!

FEDERAL UNION acetate....soon to be on Harold Ott's Lost Souls Volume 4 cd (hint) I have one more of these (for sale) in slightly lesser condition (VG) than the one I sold Mark.

Indeed a great 45 but I don't think the quantity of 100 copies is correct. It's out'n about too much for it to ring true. The flip is a personal fave. Your copy looks like it shines brightly, better looking than mine.
This record isn't really rare, as I've had 4 or 5, George must've found several, as have PA area collectors. I get tired of reading routine no-nuthins with their Feebay hype of scant minimum quantities pressed. RCA custom packages in the mid 60s were no less than 500.

I woke up this morning to find a late Xmas present in my inbox... a nice recounting of the story of the Knights Bridge 5 / Knights Bridge from the original drummer. THIS might now be the best 'find' of the year! I'm giddy like a little school kid hopped up on cotton candy and dill pickles! I had practically given up hope on ever finding out anything regarding the 3 month period following the recording/releases of the 45. Wahoo!

Your old man took her diamonds
And tiaras by the score
Now she gets her kicks in Stepney
Not in Knightsbridge anymore

I kinda figured that was incorrect info- it is published in the Rockin Records price guide, Osborne's. Also, on popsike, there are about 10 copies, so I figured the Beaus Of Beethoven 45, was more common then published. Also, I always wondered what the minimum was for RCA- thanks for the info Mike!

Looking forward to reading this. Keep us posted.

Well wild finds of garage is pretty thin on the ground on this side of the Atlantic, so I must rely on eBay and a couple of the big fairs for getting my 45 kicks...

My garage collection topped 200 this year which was nice...top buys were
The Myrchents 'Indefinite Inhibition'
The Things 'My Love'
The Id 'Rotten Apple' (sans p/s alas)
The Pentagons 'About A Girl I Love'
Feebeez 'Walk Away'
The Seeds weirdo 70s repress of "Your Pushin To Hard" (as its spelt)

plus loads of lower-priced gems, the highlight of which is probably the fratty Fink Munkx IV on Prism.

I DEMAND to hear someone saying they brought a G45 tune for mere cents...it makes me feel warm at this cold time of year :)

...not G45 by a long shot... but still, I got Alva Starr - Clock On The Wall for $2.99, unplayed copy, recently :)

That is fine it is not "rare", But it was mixed in with a bunch of crap 45's, and I obtained it for a song and a dance, to add to my collection. I only quoted info known to me, as I assume your comment was directed at me, as being a "routine no-nuthin Feebay hype of scant..." The info of 100 pressings is actually published in the Rockin Records guide, by Osborne, and in my original post I questioned if RCA would even press these up in such small quantities. As stated, you say 500 was the minimum. Since I have never had this 45 in the past, I think it is a cool find. If I find the same 45 two times, it is not a rare 45. For instance, Joe Caldwell, on the MC label, a 1950's Doo-Wop record that Osborne claims only 50 were pressed, and even publishes that is is considered one of the world's rarest 45's, in his eyes apparently. If it is so damn rare, how come I found a copy in Rochester, New York in 1976, and then again another copy in Proctorville, Ohio in 2011? I have collected 45's actively for 39 years, specializing in Rockabilly. Since I have obtained/collected/resold/ about every 45 of that Genre, I am moving onto Garage and appreciate the history and time many on this forum have to offer, and I guarantee there are WAY more rare Garage 45's then Rockabilly (less then 100 for instance). There is also a vast difference between a record collector and an actual researcher, one who actively pursues an interest in the people behind the music, instead of the value of the actual 45. In my years, I have interviewed, many Rockabilly artists because I happen to find their record, and I wanted to know more about the person behind the record.

I agree Feebay brings out the worst of the sellers, my biggest bitch is that every listed 45 is "rare" - and sellers sell G records as VG.

I guess if I posted in this forum I found The Sonics, Inc, 45 instead, I would have received a different reaction.

2011 turned out to be quite a tumultuous year personally so the record buying suffered quite a bit. Still, some gems were aquired, though not much at the higher end of g45. Good to see this forum finally picking up some speed as it's existence is crucial to a Scandinavian like me!

Got some great new photos to my ever expanding garage band photo collection. Look out for striking new pictures of Neigh'brd Children (pre-Acta), The Missing Links (CA) and The Nu Breeds (CA) in the next few weeks

So here's 2011s two biggest additions to my collection.

First off, Sofie, my 3rd daughter (and last child, I swear! God, this is going to do crucial damage to my g45 budget!)

Already being taught the crucial business of welcoming new 45s to the family

So, the biggest surprise this year MKII: The Thunderbirds on Century!

Here's hoping you all a have a spiffy 2012!

Also some random shots I took during 2011, found on my computer (my scanner is on service!)

Sophie is adorable, Mr. Segment. And, damn - that Mark IV signed sleeve and promo card ain't too shabby either.

That Missing Links photo isn't Mickey Dolenz' pre-Monkees outfit, is it? Apparently one "Missing Links" filmed a segment for McHale's Navy (according to Rhythm & News) but if they did it must have been cut. Looking forward to seeing all the photos.

No, my apolgies if that's what you thought.
My comment was directed at those "google-only" folks who don't know Diddly from Bo when trying to sell records on ebay.
Osborne's guide info is not to be taken literally. If I sent him a fake record with a high value and 50 copies pressed, he'd print it!

i have that same Missing Links glossy promo pic here. It's the group that cut a 45 on the Roscoe label. no Dolenz involvement.

Garage pickings in the wild are slim to say the least in Germany. So it’s the usual lists, private sellers and Ebait for me. Highlights of the 2011 crop include:

LEMON FOG: Summer (Orbit)
If every person has it’s own personal charts, then this would top mine (on many days of the year, at least). Eventually filing this next to "Echoes Of Time" was a special day.

STARFIRES: Never Loved her (G.I.)
As a wise man said: the rare occasion of a record that rocks AND rolls – at the same time.

HYSTERICS: Won’t Get Far (Tottenham)
By far the snarliest 45 I bought this year.

CENTREES: She’s Good For Me (Wildwood)
In terms of kinetic energy this song could power a metropolis.

HEAD & THE HARES: I Won’t Come Back (H&H)
ROUGES: Next Guy (Waverly)
A pair of New England faves that I’d very much like to find good company for in 2012.

ES SHADES: Anyday, Anywhere (Audio Dynamite)
When it comes to moody garage-psych, can anything top this?

CREATION DISCIPLE: Psychedelic Retraction (Dawn)
Call this blunt, but I like it’s primitive attitude a lot (let alone the guitar stumbles at the end)

Still had to pinch the pennies in 2011 but nonetheless managed to pick up some nice records this year. Among the better LP scores were Condello, 1st Cymande, Mandrake Memorial "Puzzle," Modality Stew, Quintal de Clorofila (awesome Brazilian acid-folk), Shape Of The Rain (terrific U.K. proto-power pop), Stephen Spano and several interesting library albums.

Top 7" acquisitions included:
The Boy Blues -- Coming Down (whipped copy but playable)
Long John & The Silvermen -- Heart Filled With Love
Lost & Found -- Professor Black
The Magic Plants -- I'm A Nothing
The Mark Four -- Hurt Me If You Will (just need their Fontana disc now)
Paul Martin -- The Last Remains Of Our Love (anyone got his Impex single for sale?)
The Naughty Boys -- Baby
The Anders Nelson Group -- A Million To One (great Hong Kong beat-pop)
Pawnbrokers -- Someday
The Poets -- That's The Way it's Got To Be
The Poets -- Baby Don't You Do It (think I only need one more of theirs...)
Shy Limbs -- Reputation
The Travel Agency -- Jailbait (among the most underrated BFTG sides)
The Twiliters -- Move It (in signed sleeve)
Velvet Illusions -- Velvet Illusions (part of my Tasmanians trade with The Magic Plants...)

Thanks to Ray, Scott, Peter and everyone else who added to my 45 stash in 2011. Here's hoping 2012 brings more cool vinyl to everyone on this forum!

This 2011 was a good year, mainly by ebay and some private list.

Among other 7", I found:

- Trojans of Evol - Throught The Night
- Beau Havens - Elizabeth
- Intruders Five - Ain´t coming Back
- Syndicate - My Baby´s Barefoot
- Bel-Aires - Ya Ha Be Be
- The Wyld - Fly By Nighter
- Children Of Darkness - She´s Mine
- Contemporaries - Fool For Temptation
- Haymarket Riot - Trip On Out
- Colors Of Night - COLORS
- Crystal Rain - You and Me
- Troyes - Love comes, Love Die
- Ides - Psychedelic Ride

I wish you a happy 2012 and good hunting.

Always love seeing the Westex year ends! Good to see someone else is still beating the pavement and finding stuff in the wild..i had a great year and will list some of the garage scene later on..So many rnb and rockabilly/ early rockers turned up it was hard to keep up with it... A few NE goodies made my year that were NOT pennies on the dollar..Time Takers on Audio Fidelity, Wanderers on Cag, In Vaders, By The Sea!

I didn't score anything in the wild, like my homie gregk25 said: there are no wilds in Germany, at least not for U.S. Garage. I got some of my favourite records nonetheless:

THE LYRICS - "So What" (ERA)
THE HARD TIMES - "I Can't Wait Till Friday Comes" (GRAY ANT)
THE OMENS - "Searching" (CODY)
THE SHAN DELS - "Please Stay" (SHOWCASE RECORDS)
THE DAGENITES - "I'm Gone Slide" (HEIGH-HO)
LITTLE PHIL & THE NIGHTSHADOWS - "So Much" (DOT)
THE MYSTIC TIDE - "Frustration" (SOLID SOUND)
CHESMANN SQUARE - "Circles" (LION)
THE HUMAN EXPRESSION - "Optical Sound" (ACCENT)
THE DOVERS - "She's Gone" (MIRAMAR)

Don't know if I can go on collecting, next year will be a difficult one for me. But I wish you guys good luck and a fuzzy 2012!

People still find things like Mystic Tide - Frustration? Kudos! I've been getting quite a lot of 45s this year and I've also concentrated on getting a few choice LP's that I "need". But I tend to forget if I bought a 45 this year or the last. It's been a very tough year on many levels and I'm kinda shell shocked right now at the end of it.
I got a mint copy of The Models - Bend Me, Shape Me that makes me feel good... and probably lots of other great records. Bought The Tuesday Club - Only Human a coupla days ago. Long Island Sound - Skid Row. Both Troyes on Space. Grateful Dead - Cream Puff War. And the biggest find of the year. Reco - Jolly Jolly Buddy Buddy. Swedish 'outsider' holy grail. Less than 5 known copies. I traded a real cool mod suit for the 45 haha
