Huh? This has somehow eluded me. Is it a Here to stay goodie? Some 45s that are not rare turn out to be pretty hard to come by in M- condition. The Detroit Sound release of Here to stay fer instance have been very difficult for me to mint up on. Maybe just unlucky until I very recently finally landed one (though not the red label but the drawn label. The red was first?)

It is a killer, and has eluded me for years and I Live in the Detroit Area. The flip is a cover East Side Story.

Not much this year as far as Garage, but in my quest for Ohio stuff I got to buy an amazing archive from Cleveland/Detroit Producer and Label owner Shelley Haims

Amongst the goodies was...

45's of every RCA and Giant label Pied Piper Productions soul 45's
Savoy's - Razorback on Studio (Instra)
Savoys - Blo Jangs on Arnie (Instra)
Spartans - Faith Hope and Charity - Capri (Doo Wop)
Coronets - Don't Deprive Me - Sterling (Doo Wop)
Coronets - Groove Label (Doo Wop)
Invicta's - Lest You Forget on Pix (Doo Wop)
Jet Tones - Henry - Pix (Rockabilly)
Lucky Boggs - Drillin Rig Boogie on Shawnee (Rockabilly)
Claude Robinson - Cotton Pickin Mama - Studio ( Rocker )

Unreleased Acetates of September Jones, Lorraine Chandler.
Unreleased Garage Acetate of The In Crowd
Unreleased Cleveland RNB/Blues acetates from the 50's by Fats Thomas, Bill Reece, El Pollo's, etc. About 70 acetates in total.

In Crowd.jpgLorraine Chandler.jpgSeptember Jones.jpg

Also about 150 reel to reel masters. The Detroit soul stuff is going to be released on ACE records. Alot of early Cleveland RNB/Doo Wop and some unreleased stuff from Rocky Olson and the Jet Tones.

Not exactly the Fine Recording Studio hale, but probably the best I will ever have! I doubt I can do better in 20012 or beyond.

The red label press I have is the 1st local issued pressing of "Here To Stay" with "Teen World" on the flipside.
When the group recorded "Midnight Hour", they took "Here To Stay" for the flipside.

I dig that Jet-tones 45. have been lookin' for it for a long time but have yet to score it. The PIX version is the best too. They recorded it for another label as well right? Can't wait to hear unreleased stuff by'em. What a haul!!!

I, for one, would buy a 45rpm repro boot of the unknown group acetate on United. Design it to visually duplicate the look / appearance of the acetate - don't make up a stupid "band name"

Wow - the unissued soul stuff sounds incredible, can't wait for the comps!
The doo-wop sounds also intrigue me!

Here are some sound clips from some of the tapes and Acetates. The archive ran the table from Mid 50's Cleveland Blues to late 60's Fuzz.

Fats Thomas - Flying Saucer - Sterling Label Acetate 1954?. Allen "Fats" Thomas was rumored to the the one to discover the Moonglows in a club in Cleveland. He immediately called Alan Freed and let him listen to the group over the phone, Alan signed them up that day.

Pee Wee - You Can Be My Honey - Tape 1957? Don't know anything about Pee Wee other than he was probably from Cleveland or played alot in Cleveland.

El Pollos - Come To My Bungalow and The Creeper - Tape 1958? They are backed by The Savoys who have a release on the Studio Label.

Rocky Olson and the Jet Tones - Sugar Love and Key To The Highway - 1959

The Fortunaires - Shake A Tale Feather and Gone - United Acetate from 1965/66. I don't know anything about these guys other than I think they were from the Detroit area and may be the same backing band that recorded on the Fortune Label. Anyone have any clue?

Unknown Band - Ice Cream Man - 1968-9? All the tape says is Ice Cream Man..... It has some good fuzz, most likely another detroit band. Do they sound familiar to anyone?

September Jones - Voodoo Mademoiselle - United Acetate. Get Detroit Northern from one of the best soul production teams, Pied Piper Productions. Shelley told me they named it Pied Piper because if you make good music, people will follow!

The band is known and they were named the In Crowd. They were actually a White Vocal Group from Cleveland and the backing band on the Acetate are the Pied Piper musicians.

They also recorded it on the Plaid label which was one of Shelley Haims labels also. I actually like the Plaid version better. I need a copy of the Plaid version so if anyone has one let me know.

Ha Could you imagine what the collection would look like in 20012:lol:

Here a song you may like Joey, Fresh Air from Fostoria Ohio 1968. I got a lp's worth of originals by these guys. This is the same band as the UNKNOWNS that had a couple of tracks on the G45 unwaxed comp. Heavy Sounds.

Pretty decent...we need to find those guys and release it. Very west-coasty
