Best finds/buys of 2011 - Year End Review

Westex, very very psyched to read this story and see those photos - other than the Elevators more introspective moments, few bands have made a finer mesh of moody garage and texas psych than the Sounds Of Night...just curious, is the original record just as lo-fi as it seems on the Wyld Sydes vol 1 comp it appears on?

As I recall it's got a bit of a kick to it... certainly not lo-fi. The band's tale is interesting, nothing wild. What amazes me is that these guys came from Sterling City, Texas. It's a small town today and was likely smaller, but busier, when the Sounds were around. But it's just about out in the middle of nowhere.

Another thing that is wild(to me) is that the drummer joined the band after moving to Sterling City from here in Odessa where he attended the junior high I currently teach at. The same Junior High that gave birth to the Shades and Knights Bridge.

Few finds from 2011, nothing major compared to some heavy hitters here. I'm fairly new to collecting Garage, some common sounds I'm still just now hearing, makes collecting more exciting.

All are local finds, except for Moving Sidewalks which was found in Houston at an estate sale.

Have some more, getting late, I'll post them later.

YOU FOUND THE NIGHT PATROL 45!!!!! I'VE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS ONE FOR NEARLY A DECADE!!!!!!
Is this a really tough one to find, or have I just been unlucky?

Hey Down-n-out

I had never heard of The Night Patrol prior to picking this one up, went through 100 or so 70s-80s country 45s and pulled this one out. Not sure of rarity, all I know are the basics: Fort Worth, 1967.

Hopefully someone else will shine a "Spotlight" on this?

I've never seen it for sale, and do not have a copy. Considering I have spent considerable time and effort (not to mention money) on Texas '60s garage 45s in particular, it must be quite scarce to say the least! Perhaps an order of magnitude rarer than the Nomads "Be Nice" on the same label.

Bosshoss,

Wow! I didnt think the 45 was a big deal since I couldn't find anything online about it. Like I said, I'm new to collecting garage, I've collected about 12 years now but have pretty much focused on doowop and r&b.

I did see the Nomads single when it was on ebay this month, only other time I'd seen the Spotlight label.
I assume there was no PS issued with The Night Patrol?

Again, I appreciate all the info and in this case, great news!

Great find smunger! I should also say that it's not a 45 that I've ever heard mentioned as particularly in demand by collectors, although it obviously would be if it ever came up. In other words, using the official G45 Rarity/Sound/Legend scale, I would rate it as 5/3/2 (maximum being 5/5/5)

I did see the Nomads single when it was on ebay this month, only other time I'd seen the Spotlight label.

Both Chocolate Moose 45's are on Spotlight, they seem to be fairly scarce as well. But I'll venture Night Patrol is rarer than either by an order of magnitude.

Does there seems to be a lot more quality 45s and related vintage stuff on ebay lately, or am I just bumping into it more? Maybe some collections are getting weeded? I must've dropped at least three thou there in the last half year thinking 'I may not find this again'.
