Calica Wall: Stupid ass Q about stuff I already should know

The "repro" is red, but there is a blue label too.
What's up with that?

Was it ever released as anything more than an acetate? I've seen one greenish label with numbers on it..

Mark T. has one of two known acetate / reference copies. He got a real bonafide bargain when he bought it from Patrice, I believe, several years ago. The only boot 45 pressing I know of is the red label version done by Get Hip back in the 90s.

Wait a minute- this was never released officially? I can't believe it. What an amazing record!
Whose copy was it then that appeared on all the comps back in the 80s?
The scan looks awesome.

Edited, as I missed two acetates in the original list, which is now updated:

It was never released because their manager/ producer got drafted or something which ended the band - a studio-only project. Read about them in an issue of "Lost & Found" zine, I forget which volume # - might be #3?

So when a record like this Calico Wall was made,is this a 45 single in it's true sense or is it an acetate? I always thought most acetates were an aluminum disc with a recordable surface added/bonded to it,and the record was actually recorded on a record lathe.Possibly later made acetates were a plastic material but still recorded with a recording lathe?
Can you imagine this record actually being released? It definetly would have blown some minds in the day!

I don't know the right answer Darren but it may be a test pressing like you get 5 pressed up in vinyl to see if the quality is right then you can order your run of discs 100-599 what ever. But an acetate is just about what you described. edit - OK thee bosshoss says it's an acetate... durrr!!!

I'm sure this fucked up piece of garbage would have received zero airplay it is just too freaking out there a masterpiece in derangement.

Killer list, baby!

And yeah, Sickness must be thee craziest most fucked up track, and it still got a pretty stiff competition!
Too bad so few took the Weird Road with the emerging of psych - the post-punk of teen beat.
Bees Voices win the sleeve contest though!
