New US garage comp

I'm only going to say that your rant in the quoted post is IMHO totally out of place. You have no idea what has or has not happened in these peoples lives and if they even have the knowledge and/or capability to get their old tunes out. As well, I'm not sure how many of us "lazy-ass old rockers of yore" (much less surviving family members of those who have passed on) even had a clue that somebody would be interested in the music we did 40-50 years ago, I certainly didn't until I was searching for old band members on the internet and stumbled on sites like this one. And since finding out that there is interest in old garage bands, I've been happy to provide clips of music, answer questions/interviews, share pictures and memorabilia. But those are just my thoughts, I can't speak for everyone.

Right on Clyde.

And the people who I used to know all those years ago - who liked freaky rock'n'roll and crazy ass punk - definitely stopped their garage-safari's because of all the crap-comps made by fundamentalists who totally drained all patience and trust in comps in general. A lot of limp-dick beat was all ya got for your hard earned cash and time spent.
There have always been mediocre comps. Maybe in the 80s the people you mention didn't have the extra money to buy all the comps, so they picked out the best like BFTG. Then they started to earn some money and wanted to have all, and found out lots of it is not exactly super killer stuff. And then they started complaining. Now ain't that snobbery?
All I know is that some of the comps of the last 10 years are way better than some Highs In The Mid-Sixties or Boulders.

I'm with you brotha. Let 'em have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOPS 30 too many exclamation marks:confused:

And no, it is impossible to keep track of literally tens and tens of thousands of unknown people in US alone that recorded cool rock'n'roll on some DIY label.

I understand, it is far easier to rant than to make an effort, if that's your attitude then so be it. There are I'm sure many, many old rockers that don't have a clue that their efforts from many years ago might be appreciated by someone today. I'm also happy to see some of the music, memorabila, etc. from one of the bands I was part of showing up on the internet, I'm not a stickler for crossing every t and dotting every i and following each and every legality. What I objected to was the attitude, but that's your attitude not mine and so be it!

wild paws - what the heck do you know about me, my rants and my "efforts" dude? And my attitude is chronic, I'm afraid. But I'm great with kids and animals.

Oh Frantic - did you just blast me while passing by? Smooth!

Axel - if a customer (like myself) make a complaint about the product they are buying, shouldn't the ones who produces said product be of interest of what the problem might be?
This is at least my experience.

Rick - right on, Rick.

I am of course very humbled at times because the work, time and EFFORT made by compilers, collectors and lazy-ass rockers of yore. You set the scene. Man.
But I (and the likes of) - as a customer - AM (or was) the scene. This is why my complaints are fuckin interesting.

You're a legend...IN YER OWN MIND. But then you already knew that. BAM:%: Oh yeah, that was a rather smooth blast-o-rama on my part.

You can complain about the condition of the product, if it has some damage or something, but not about its content. If you buy a record and think it's shit, what's the use of complaining? If you don't want it, don't buy it.
The sound quality is a different matter. The quality of some comps is close to damage...

lazy-ass rockers of yore.

I partly agree with your opinion about licensing, but what is that unnecessary insult towards the members of those great bands good for? Do you really think anyone would start to press his old 45, without even having original tapes, without having the same studio techniques, probably never having had anything to do with vinyl mastering- and then try to sell and distribute it all by himself? And then probably only sell 50 copies to some nerds and be left sitting on 250 copies- AGAIN?! You really want to call that "lazy-ass"?

Lee which band were you in?

In reference to Frantic... the whole grabbing a mic thing during a dj-set is genius, I think it rocks... I want people, like I did once, to use the mic and yell abuse to the crowd whilst spinning great records.

Because I have hang ups, I occasionally like to throw in a record which may just screw things up.

how to kill a DJ set... play Mysterious Clown by none other than The Mysterious Clown.

remember also...

one man's killer is another man's dud and vice-versa.

I adore the Class of 66 - NO Fuzz comp and got into a heated discussion once with a friend who said, he couldn't bare it and that it wasn't "garage"... I argued and said this said compilation was more "teen beat" than the majority of comps out there.

I agree with Chas in that comps like "Flaykes and Shakes", although they are loosely put together, are in fact a good body of research and does well exposing some of the lesser groups and sounds.

I think comps are good, each "new" comp is potential for young ears to get into this music, that can't be a bad thing overall.

I've seen hundreds of people dancing to The Keggs when I've dj'd. That's hard to beat. :)
Personally I would never dj with digital... I think it's FUN to play 45s - that's why I dj with'em. I wanna see a record on the turntable otherwise I get bored. Of some reason the music's not enough haha. The GG ripoff bootleg 45s sucksucksuck but the new ones w/ 'reissue' printed on the labels etc sounds real good. But I usually only play originals... ca 100 45's will last a whole evening. I don't play LPs cause they are too big n heavy.
I don't care about compilations anymore if they don't come from Norton, Frantic or some similarily hi end operation. But all these euro bootlegs with mp3's and downloads (or rips from forum cdr's etc) just give me a headache. But the worst must be these fake 'proto punk' comps with 70's boogie dreck and bad funk rock.

Are we talking about Bonehead Crunchers now?

I have no clue about the DJ-scene at all since I don't like clubbing. If I do go out, the last thing I wish to see is the fundamentalist rockers. They make me sweat.

I love when people have principles, like, only using original 45s. That's sexy.
But mixing outa yer phone thru Spotify at some hole-in-the-wall dive - whogivesafuck?

But that was not my point. My point was that it's crazy to demand your DJ using $1,000 singles instead of represses.

I was listening to this compilation earlier today.

You can tell most of these were jacked from YouTube. When you look up "Misters' Virtue - Summer Night", on the right side where all the (suggestion videos) appear, is "The Young Strangers - She's Gone", which also appears on this comp. A coincidence?... Nah! This channel features most of the tracks that are on this comp! http://www.youtube.com/user/bofuz?feature=watch

I'm also pretty sure The Celtics track was taken from Westex's blog.

But above all that, I found the lamest thing to be the inclusion of "The Worlocks". I think it's really dumb for anybody to try and feature a well KNOWN BFTG track on any compilation at this stage in the game. Come on now! :%:

I can certainly agree with the overall sentiment here. These people are scumbags for trying to make money off something like this. I'm always willing to pay, but only if it's legit, and worth my money.

It would be funny if someone actually bought it, I mean, the tracks are on YouTube (FOR FREE). It's like wasting $15 bucks on the LP cover. Not the music:confused:
