RICH GOWELL Lovely Mexican Lady

Lenny Breau on guitar. It's fair to midland. Nowhere near as cool as Whirlpool by Wanda Jackson.

you guys are weird. IMO it's def tepid for the sound, but there are a bunch of these kinda popcorn/rockabilly/soul hybrids with fuzz guitar that DJs play because people respond to them. you guys always bitching about "mod" spins, but it's actually somewhat difficult to find a garage 45 that doesn't have some awkward pause or changeup in the middle that makes people stop dancing and sit down unless you put a fair amount of effort into it. at least if you're playing music for people used to dancing to soul music. shit like this has the same raw white soul vibe without some mood killer in the middle. it's also not played out like the obvious car commercial r&b picks like SONICS or whatever.

half of my friends are soul music collectors/DJs, i'm often surprised at what "killer garage 45s" can do to a dancefloor: empty it.

I'm pretty sure most of us around here could give 2 shits:flush::flush: about the dance floor:screwy::screwy::screwy:

one i like in this style is that VARIATIONS on VEE that seems to have turned up
Now that is a good record, but I think “No Other Woman” has more of a garage appeal than does the Rich Gowell record. I like the instrumental flip, “Gary’s Theme” too.

Have you heard the groups other record? It is on the Klub label as Gary Collins & the Variations. If you like the Vee 45 you’d definitely like that one.

Why yes. Any time, I hear a good garage tune... the first thought in my head (and I'm sure I speak for other forum members) is ... "gosh, it sounds good, but will it fill a dance floor in 2020?"

In the past, I've read a lot (on this very forum) about this certain "DJ mentality" but have never witnessed it first hand. I always thought that some of the forum members were exaggerating (it really couldn't be this ridiculous, I thought ). Apparently, it is.

@cracker - Here's a tip for ya... you may want to stay away from playing "Unrelated Segment's - Where You Gonna Go" because it does indeed have an "awkward pause and changeup" but I bet that your crowd will swoon over a tune by "Animal Jack" called "Gotta Hear The Beat."

i'd say it may have more appeal to DJs precisely because it has the dreaded 70s crossover sound.

i'm not saying i love it was just trying to answer the question. as someone who often needs to raise hundreds of dollars to buy the garage 45s i want, i'm happy to keep an eye out for records like this to help pay for them.
