Surprise, surprise - idle chatter about TBM

That WFMU show was fantastic! I sincerely hope all those uncomped killers don't stay uncomped for long.
It's a shame that the Tyme acetate isn't good enough to release, it's a killer! Here's a downloadable file of the song, for those of you who want to listen to it again and again (like I do):

Oh, and that Flight Reaction song is awesome. Best new stuff I've heard in a long while.

Thanks so much Pfft... if truth be told, this Tyme song is beyond brilliant, I am going to be pretty honest, I'm gonna copy that verse chord progression and vocal melody for a future song of my own...

so far I have a lyric which goes "See that Girl (see that girl) walking with that other man, Season change (Seasons they change) but never stay the same" that's about it.

Whats good for Phil and The Frantics (re the Zombies) is good enough for me and these cats!!!

I love you for the WAV.file Pfft

It's a few weeks later, but I finally got around to listening to the WFMU show that Mike was on. I know everybody's making a big deal over that James Bond track, (which yes, was awesome), but my personal favorite was The Raevins "The Edge Of Time". What a great punker!

And I agree, I hope those tracks get compiled somewhere in the future. Very good stuff Mike!

Was just curious, why is John fred an honorable mention instead of just a regular listing? Too old? Either way I like what you have to say. Very under appreciated. Many cool album cuts and lots of great singles. Even towards the end of his PAULA run. "Permanently stated" is one of the best psych/concept LP's I think as well.

I could not find the Rico and the Ravens in TBM or does it sound too much like a teen record?. It's from 1964 and US. Shouldn't be listed? On Autumn #6 is from '64, but I think this one is from '65.

interesting as I could not find it listed in two of the doo wop price guides I have, but found it in the doo wop song book by title. It sounds more like rock and roll than doo wop to me. However,
glad you liked it.

Just played the smashing Outta my head by John Fred & His Playboys. It is described in TBM as "tuff funky-beat strut w brass". There is no brass to be found on this song, are there two different versions of this?

That's on the 34:40 LP. Great album! Sounds like brass on the sharp jabs at the intro to the verse but it's not that noticed through the rest of the song.
