Surprise, surprise - idle chatter about TBM

Thanks, Troggy, will investigate that one. I thought I had it already.

Keep all suggestions and corrections coming. I'm hard at work on the follow-up book. There are also talks undergoing with design experts about having a complete update of TBM available in download form, via an app. But don't expect that to come to be anytime soon.

did we already mention that the Finnigan's Wake entry should mention that "Situation Sad" is a cover (or do I have to say re-make, I forgot) of Michel Polnareff's "la poupee qui fait non"?

I'm not sure if this has been discussed. I notice that sometimes there will be a short reference to a group's other 45s. For example, there's a primary listing for The Sundowners on Filmways. At the bottom of the listing there's mention of some of their 45s on Decca. So do these Decca records have garage street cred or would they fall into the random, pot-luck category? Just wondering. It's an awesome book by the way.

There is a fourth Sundowners 45 not listed in the book titled: ''Always You'' on Decca 34486.

I don't know about garage street cred but I like both of their Deeca 45's a lot.

Thanks for your reply. I've been collecting 60's music for only a few years, so many of these titles and groups are new to me. I just gave "Always You" a listen on Youtube, and yes, I would buy that record.

Mike...I just realized The Swampseeds were omitted. A few of their songs definitely qualify. Will they be in the follow-up book?

Has somebody mentioned yet that the (PS) behind the Seeds "Mr Farmer" belongs to the version w/ "up in her room" on the flip?

Also shouldn't there be a (PS) behind the Mar '67 version of GPN 354?

And while we're there: Are there more sixties sleeves like GNP 408 printed on plastic?

Yes, we have those Seeds matters taken care of.
Not aware of any pic sleeves printed on cheap plastic.

The Swampseeds are tossed in with a bunch of those borderline type discs and the also-rans / oddities by better-known performers.

Read the notation

This was in response to my question "In what sense are Peter Harcourt and the Subjects Australian?" many moons ago in this thread. So I did, but it doesn't help. Does the d next to the band's name on page 286 mean it was supposed to have an asterisk and therefore be included in the main listing? I can't find it in the main A-Z listing, either in A-Z or Honorable Mentions for H (or P or S). Can you illuminate further on the group now?

There was a mention of the group in an issue of Record World where licensing of masters for the HBR label is recounted. That is where I obtained that information. However, I could not verify it 100%. Thus, I have the breakdowns on page 286, which you can read for yourself.
For purposes here, and for people who still do not have a copy of TBM:

The asterisk identifies that the group is listed in the book, even though the group may have come from /relocated for a time to outside the borders of the USA. Example: The Sonics, erroneously referred to by 99% of people as the Sonics Inc.

The lowercase bold font letters a, b, c, and d further identify reasons for classification in TBM or omission.
For Peter Harcourt HBR 45, with letter following the entry on pg 286 (d, as shown in TBM) identifies it as follows:
"industry guides and periodicals mention [the] 45, but accuracy / reliability may be suspect..."

And there you have it.

As aforementioned in this thread, any corrections and updates of listings in TBM are being incorporated within the follow-up book. It is a supplemental book, and not a reprint or replacement of the original book.

I don't know if this was mentioned or not, but I found the Care Package ''vinegar man'' in the alphabetical listings. However, I can not find it anywhere else. Can you tell me what page the group is listed?

"Vinegar Man" / Care Package will be listed in the next book. It was supposed to have been listed but editing made for a "no fit".

One suggestion I received, and I kinda like it, is that I revamp a group's entry if there are additional 45s or numerous changes...thus, I will designate a listing as "revamped" which means it will become the "go-to" entry, you'd just have to X-out the original group entry in TBM. This would only occur on a handful of group entries, less than 10 so far. For instance, the Shapes Of Sound recorded two 45s on All-American; at the time TBM headed out to press, the other 45 had not been known, or discovered. That entry will now be revised, and noted as "revamped" in the New Additions discography list.

All other minor corrections and stuff of that nature will be noted by type of correction, in alphabetical order.
missing ratings will be grouped together, typos will be grouped together in alpha order, etc. to make it easier for reference. It makes it easier to keep track of, and you can mark your own copies of TBM.

Ok, do any of you comp fiends know the source for this unissued track? TIA!
