What are you listening to and what do you have to say about it?

The Basement Wall - Never Existed
I'm always floored when I see the Wes Farrell credit on this one - definitely not The Partridge Family sound on that one. The first 20 seconds of Every Mother's Son's Come On Down are pretty cool - letdown city once they start singing. Any other garage stuff come out with Farrell's name in the credits?

The Kingsmen - Up and Away

I was lucky enough to get a NM copy of this LP for $5 at a record fair a couple years ago. It's a pretty good album.

The Seeds - Web of Sound 2xCD on Big Beat.

I'm listening to this on headphones at the office, and it sounds AMAZING! I don't think I'd ever heard the stereo mix before. I'm not yet ready to say it is better than the mono mix, but it does make it seem like I'm hearing this album for the 1st time. Note that both the mono & stereo mixes are included in this deluxe edition.

I'd never heard the Sky Saxon Blues Band before (also included in this deluxe edition). Now I know why. Sounds like generic white-boy blues to me. Maybe it will grow on me, but I don't see myself giving it enough listens for that to happen.

I agree completely. I will never listen to the Sky Saxon Blues Band LP again...even though it sounds great. BLAH.

And I had forgotten how great Web Of Sound is. The bonus tracks on Disc 1 are all fantastic, too. I might now even bump up Web Of Sound into my top 5 favorite albums.

LOL.... even though I too find Skys Seedy Blues a hard listen, you can not say they sound like a generic white blues band they sound like Seedy blues, it is somewhat hilarious and is dripping with some period acidic charm.

The Gardener - "got 5 acres of cotton, 3 acres of taters and a lot of soft grass...." this ain't honkey blues it is Sky's mind dribbing down the microphone......

...was the dude cooking up smack? All those spoons!

Cry Wolf is worth a listen or two. Jan Savage is so good.

Currently listening to Eric Burdon's newest album, which I must say is pretty good. I haven't really followed his career in recent years, but this is a decent record IMO. I picked it up last night when I went to see him in Hollywood. He's still got it! Amazing man!

Just got the Big Beat CD of the 1st Seeds LP a few weeks ago; sounds absolutely brilliant in mono. Great use of bonus tracks too by Alec; smart to not use the 45 mixes as Big Beat will be doing a Seeds Singles As & Bs sometime in the near future.

Just got, also on Big Beat, Feeling High - The Psychedelic Sound of Memphis. Another Alec Palao compiled gem; the opening track "Rubber Rapper" by Searing Smoke sets the tone for what is a pretty wild ride. The vast majority if it previously unreleased to boot!

Allah-Las - Don't You Forget It

These guys really are where it's at...I played "Catamaran" for a few people and they couldn't believe that it had been released outside of the '60s.

Been diggin' mightily on this as of late. Really good and punky, which I don't normally associate with Kama Sutra.vacels.JPG

And though this one falls a bit outside a' the scope of this board I grabbed it on the cheap from a thrift the other day and it's killing me. Played it straight through both sides a number of times.photo-8.JPG

"Japan Ways", B-side of Karate K K by Tommy Dougherty and the Symbols on Dance City USA, faux stop start Oriental intro then kicks into a SLAMMIN' tittyshaker instro, loving this record.

Stumbled on this. It's a total monster. I didn't know it because I just don't own all the Gear Fab CDs, due to their overall poor quality. But this this thing is just amazing, combining a cruel moody vibe with stuttering energy, amazing bass guitar, topped off with a wild scream. I live for discoveries like this!
