What are you listening to and what do you have to say about it?

"Mess Around" by Opus IV. Got it for a dollar at a record store earlier this week...it was sitting in a box of unsorted 45s. It's been through the wringer, but it's still one helluva 45.

Anyone know what instrument they use at the beginning of that song? It sounds like a banjo with a ton of reverb added.

love it! I've always thought it was a harpsichord or keyboard (I really never stopped to find out what it really is), but the banjo+delay+reverb option seems much more likely

Cool live version with hip French audience, some dancing, some looking bored.

This is from a New Year's Eve tv special (december 31st 1968) back when there was only 2 TV channels to choose from. It's a couple of hours long with The Who, Small Faces, Equals, Pink Floyd, Booker T, Variations and a few more. All live beside the Who and Small Faces.

Sounds awesome. Did you ever get to see the whole thing?

yes it was on cable tv a few years ago. as expected it started to show up on youtube just after that (there's a few different excerpts available there). one of my faves (the whole show was shot in the same tv studio except for Pink Floyd and this one, both live from two parisian night clubs)

Cool stuff!

I'm listening a lot to Los Mockers these days.
Here's a nice one:

Awesome! Awesome! SO underrated!

I can't tell if that background instrument is a trombone or a guitar, but I think it's the latter.
Snarling, screaming vocals, sparingly and tastefully applied reverb, awesome guitar licks, and organ. This song really does have it all.

I'll never forget the time I found that record. It was the only 45 in a bin of shitty LPs at a Salvation Army for months on end. I finally decided to buy it and give it a listen. I put on "Gonna Make You" first, and immediately decided the two quarters I spent on it went to a good cause!

Good stuff. Keep it coming!

Currently listening to the Riviera EP versions of a few 13th Floor Elevators songs, released on a Charly comp a few years ago.

The songs themselves are great, but the recordings aren't. Lots of (what sounds like) inner-groove distortion.

i have a cassette tape of a bunch of canadian bands so i've been listening to both fringe songs-token for my mind & plastic people, farmer john by the band burton cummings was in before the guess who., the king beezzzz-she belongs to me or what ever that dylan song is called, , faded colours by the stonemen etc etc

Universal Records have just re-released these two on vinyl (500 copies each), and especially the first one is essential 'cleanbeat'!
